🇺🇸 Officially one month until the 4th of July! 🇺🇸

Did you know that more pets go missing on the 4th of July than any other day of the year?

Fireworks, parties, and unfamiliar guests can be stressful for our furry family members, causing even normally calm pets to panic and run away. With Independence Day just one month away, now is the perfect time to make a plan!

-Is your pet microchipped?
-Is your contact information up to date?
-Does your pet have a properly fitting collar with identification tags?
-Have you talked with your veterinarian about anxiety management if your pet is fearful of fireworks?

Planning ahead now can help keep your pet safe when the celebrations begin.

Let's make sure all pets stay safe, secure, and home where they belong this Independence Day. ❤️🤍💙

🌧️ April showers bring… May flies! 🪰

With all that spring rain, black flies are making their return and they love our furry friends just as much as we do.

If you’re noticing small red spots or irritated patches on your dog’s belly, ears, or inner legs, those pesky fly bites could be the cause.

The good news? While they may look alarming, these bites are usually more annoying than harmful.

🪰Keep your pup protected this season with a reliable flea & tick preventative like Vectra 3D, it also helps repel biting flies, mosquitoes, and more!🪰

(Can be paired with your pets monthly Rx prevention, such as Nexgard Plus)

Stop by Paw Paw Veterinary Clinic to pick up your pet’s protection and keep them comfortable all season long.

🐢🦎 Community Help Needed! 🦎🐢

Our friends at MARS (Michigan Amphibian & Reptile Sanctuary) are in need of old towels.

If you have any gently used towels (any size!) that you no longer need, they can put them to great use for reptiles and amphibians in rehabilitation.

✨ Easy drop-off option:
We’re happy to help collect donations here at PPVC, just bring your towels by and we’ll make sure they get to MARS!

Every little bit helps keep these amazing animals comfortable while they heal 💚

Thank you for supporting local wildlife care!

Towels needed!!

If you have old towels, of any size, that you no longer need, please consider donating them to MARS to use with our wildlife patients 🙏

Drop off is in Kalamazoo. Thank you!!

From the shores of Lake Michigan to the hands of compassionate care… meet Doug the Tank!🐢

We’re so proud to share that our very own Dr. Stefan Baker was recently involved helping care for a 33-pound snapping turtle affectionately named “Doug the Tank".

Doug was found stranded on the beach in Grand Haven, and thanks to a quick-thinking community and a whole lot of teamwork, he was safely rescued and brought in for care.

With Michigan Amphibian & Reptile Sanctuary and Dr. Baker’s help, Doug is now on the road to recovery and proving that even the toughest shells sometimes need a little support!

We love being part of stories like this where community, compassion, and veterinary care come together to make a difference for all creatures, big, small, and sometimes prehistoric-looking.

👏 Huge shoutout to everyone involved in Doug’s rescue, you made this incredible outcome possible!

A snapping turtle was recovered from a Lake Michigan beach. Now, he's growing "increasingly more sassy," and doing better.

Last week, the PPVC team hit the ice… well, the stands 🏒

We spent the evening cheering on the Kalamazoo K-Wings for a little team bonding (and a lot of laughs).

Even our remote crew didn’t miss out! Ashley (Florida) and Taylor (Colorado) managed to make an appearance!

Time like this reminds us how lucky we are to have a team that truly enjoys being together not just during busy days at the clinic, but outside of it too.

The same teamwork, support, and connection we rely on every day with our patients carries over into moments like these. Because at the end of the day, we don’t just work together, we show up for each other. And that’s something we bring back with us every single day when caring for you and your pets 💙🐾
