P.A.W.S. (Pauls Valley Animal Welfare Society) We support the Pauls Valley Animal Shelter by coordinating volunteers, sponsoring educational programs, and fundraising.

While the shelter intakes animals within Pauls Valley City Limits, our animal welfare resources extend to all of Garvin County. Our organization is made up of over 300 members who care about animals. It is an eclectic group varying in race, age, economic and professional levels and religious affiliations. We are, however, single-minded when confronting our community problems of animal cruelty and

neglect, overpopulation and the humane treatment in which our strays and homeless dogs and cats are housed. Our goal is to relieve their suffering, do everything in our power to find them homes and provide a decent animal shelter for Garvin County.

📣 Calling our fellow animal control agencies, shelters & rescues!

PAWS is excited to help bring Shelter Medicine Foundations: Veterinary Partnership Without an On-Staff Veterinarian to Pauls Valley this November!

This two-day training was created specifically for the people working in animal welfare who care for animals before, after, and between veterinary visits. The course will feature multiple participating agencies and veterinarians, with veterinarian-led and veterinarian-approved medical curriculum.

One of the pieces we’re most excited about is helping organizations strengthen their Veterinarian of Record (VOR) relationship. Participants will look at protocols, staff roles, documentation, communication, escalation procedures, and what it takes to build a medical program that a veterinarian can feel confident and comfortable partnering with.

There will also be plenty of practical learning—from intake assessment and restraint to vaccination, infectious disease, point of care testing, emergency response, CPR, veterinary communication, and more. The goal isn’t to turn shelter workers into veterinarians; it’s to make them better partners to veterinarians and better prepared for the animals in their care.

🐾 November 19–20, 2026
📍 Pauls Valley, Oklahoma
⏰ 8:30 AM–5:00 PM each day
💲 $100 per participant

Please note: This is a professional training opportunity and is NOT open to the general public. Registration is intended for animal control officers, municipal and nonprofit shelter staff, rescue personnel, and other animal welfare professionals.

If you work with another shelter, rescue, or animal control organization, we would love to have your team join us! Tag an organization that should be in the room, share this with your animal welfare colleagues, and come learn alongside us.

What if we made September about getting our shelter dogs out of their kennels and into the community? 🐾

All month long, we’re challenging our community to help our dogs walk a combined 60 MILES.

There’s no registration fee. No fundraising requirement. No minimum distance. You don’t even have to commit to more than one walk.

Just come walk a shelter dog. 💙

Take one around the park, around town, or out for an afternoon adventure. A half-mile counts. Three miles counts. Every single mile gets added to our shelter-wide total.

For our dogs, those miles mean fresh air, new smells, exercise, enrichment, one-on-one attention, and most importantly—a break from shelter life.

And if our community gets them to 60 miles by September 30?

🥤🐶 PUP CUP PARTY!
We’ll celebrate with pup cups and special treats for the dogs who put in all that hard work.

Any dog. Anyone. Any distance.
Let’s see just how far our community can take them this September. 💙🐾

🏆🐾 WHAT A WAY TO WRAP UP MVP WEEK! 🐾🏆

Remember Timmy? The handsome little guy who was staring at us like he couldn’t understand why the scoreboard was so low?

WELL… TIMMY HAS BEEN DRAFTED! 🎉🏠

And with his adoption, the final whistle has officially blown on our MVP Mega Adoption Event!

🏈 FINAL SCORE: 7 ADOPTIONS! 🏈

Seven animals left the shelter with families of their very own this week, and several more were placed into foster homes, giving them a much-needed break from the shelter while they continue waiting for their forever families. ❤️

That means more animals sleeping in homes tonight, more kennel space opened for the next animals who need us, and more opportunities for our foster pets to show everyone exactly who they are outside of the shelter environment.

We may have spent part of the week joking about our low scoreboard, but every adoption, every foster placement, every share, and every person who walked through our doors made a difference.

A HUGE thank you to everyone who adopted, fostered, shared our posts, tagged friends, and helped get our animals seen. And a special thank you to Best Friends Animal Society for sponsoring adoption fees and helping make this week possible!

And Timmy… apparently you just wanted to wait until the final minutes of the game to make your move. 😂❤️

🏆 FINAL SCORE: 7 ADOPTED!
🏠 SEVERAL MORE INTO FOSTER HOMES!
🐱 TIMMY: ADOPTED!
🏈 MVP WEEK: THAT’S A WRAP!

Happy tails, Timmy—and congratulations to ALL of our MVPs who made it out this week! ❤️🐾

🏈🏆 FINAL WHISTLE — TODAY IS THE LAST DAY OF SPONSORED ADOPTIONS! 🏆🏈

The clock is running out on our MVP Mega Adoption Event, and we still have a whole roster of incredible dogs and cats waiting to hear their names called. ❤️🐾

TODAY is your last chance to adopt with a FULLY SPONSORED adoption fee!

We’ve spent the week introducing you to some of our MVPs, but there are plenty more sitting on the sidelines hoping today is finally their day.

Maybe you’ve been watching one of them all week.
Maybe you’ve been telling yourself you’ll “come by later.”
Maybe you just haven’t met the one yet.

Well… this is later. 😂

Come spend some time with our animals, meet a few potential new teammates, and see who chooses YOU.

🏆 Sponsored adoption fees END TODAY!
🐶 Dogs waiting for homes
🐱 Cats waiting for homes
❤️ One adoption can change an animal’s entire life.

We don’t want to end this game with kennels still full.

Help us run up the score before the final whistle — ADOPT AN MVP TODAY! 🏠🐾🏆

And even if you can’t adopt, SHARE THIS POST. Your share might be exactly what puts one of our animals in front of the family they’ve been waiting for.

🐾 A FEW HOURS OUT OF THE SHELTER CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING.

We’ve seen it happen again and again. A dog goes on a Doggy Day Out, we get to share a completely different side of them, more people notice them—and somehow, their adoption journey seems to move a whole lot faster. ❤️

So, we want MORE of our dogs out in the community!

Our Doggy Day Out program allows you to take an adoptable dog out of the shelter for a few hours and simply let them be your buddy for the day.

Go get a pup cup. ☕🐶
Take a walk through the park.
Go for a drive.
Spend the afternoon exploring.
Take them along on a day trip.

There’s no need to plan some huge adventure. The outing itself is the adventure to them.

For a shelter dog, it means time away from the noise and routine of the kennel. It means new smells, new experiences, exercise, enrichment and some much-needed individual attention.

For us, it means getting to know that dog better.

And for their future adopter? It means getting to see them as something other than “a dog in a shelter.”

They get to see the dog happily riding in the passenger seat. The dog waiting patiently for a pup cup. The dog stretched out in the grass. The dog walking beside you. The dog being goofy, affectionate, adventurous or perfectly content just hanging out.

That’s the dog we need people to see.

Take pictures. Take videos. Tell us what you learned about them. Share them on your own social media. Every person who sees that dog is another potential adopter, foster, advocate—or connection to the person they’ve been waiting for.

And thanks to a Petfinder Foundation grant, the supplies for a safe and successful Doggy Day Out are provided. We’ll help get you and your adventure buddy ready to go!

You don’t have to be able to adopt a dog to help one get adopted.

Sometimes you just have to get them out there so the right person can see them. 🐾❤️

📍 Doggy Day Out is happening NOW at Pauls Valley Animal Welfare.

Come borrow a dog. Give them an afternoon outside the shelter. Then help us show everyone why they deserve a home. 🏡

Looking for a natural, eco-friendly way to keep your property free of mice and pests? Our working cats are ready to clock in! These cats come from outdoor or feral backgrounds and prefer the freedom of a barn, shop, shed, or stable over the life of a house pet.
They are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and healthy, but they are not suited for indoor living or cuddles. What they do love is having a safe place to stay, regular food and water, and the ability to patrol their territory.
Give a cat who can’t live the traditional “pet life” a second chance—and gain a hardworking teammate in return. If you’ve got a barn or outbuilding that needs a guardian, one of our working cats would be thrilled to call it home.
All they ask for:
• A safe shelter (barn, shop, shed, or similar)
• Daily food and water
• Basic care and kindness
In return, you’ll get a low-maintenance resident who helps keep your property pest-free. A win-win for everyone!

📺🐾 FROM THE NEWS… TO A NEW HOME! 🏡❤️

Remember Espresso, the handsome guy who made his television debut this week?! Our very own Camryn took him to KXII’s Talk of the Town to help spread the word about the MVP Mega Adoption Event. KXII introduced viewers to Espresso, who had been waiting for his forever home since July.

Well… IT WORKED. ESPRESSO WAS ADOPTED TODAY! 🎉🎉🎉

Apparently all this boy needed was a little airtime to find his people. 😂☕️📺

This is exactly why sharing, posting, talking about our animals, and getting them in front of new audiences matters. You truly never know who is going to see that one post, that one picture—or that one TV appearance—and realize they’ve found their new best friend.

Congratulations, Espresso! Your MVP week just ended with the biggest win of all. 🏈🏆❤️

And a HUGE thank you to KXII for giving our shelter and Espresso the opportunity to reach thousands of people across Texoma!

🐾 Did you know you can support a local business AND the shelter at the same time?!

Our friends at That Dog Place have a display of handmade dog treats right here at the shelter! 🐶🦴

For just $4, you get a 6-pack of homemade treats, with several flavors to choose from—including Peanut Mutters and Banana Mutt! Even better, a portion of every purchase is donated back to the shelter to help the animals in our care. ❤️

So when you stop by to visit, adopt, foster, or just say hello, grab your pup a little something too! You’ll be shopping local, spoiling your dog, AND supporting shelter pets all with one purchase.

We love seeing local businesses find creative ways to give back, and we’re incredibly thankful to That Dog Place for including our animals in what they do. 🐾

📍 Treats are available right here at Pauls Valley Animal Welfare!

Your dog says you should probably grab two bags. 😉🐕🦴

Ever wonder why your cat sleeps like they just worked a 12-hour shift and paid the mortgage? 😴🐾

Cats are professional sleepers—and there’s actually a reason for it! Most adult cats sleep around 12–16 hours a day, and some may snooze even longer. Their wild ancestors conserved energy between periods of hunting, and our spoiled house cats still carry those same instincts… even when their biggest hunt of the day is tracking down a piece of kibble that rolled under the couch.

You may also notice your cat:

🐾 Sleeping in weird positions — If they’re sprawled out, belly exposed, or completely relaxed, they usually feel safe and secure.

🐾 Following you from room to room but pretending they don’t care — Cats are social creatures. They often just prefer companionship on their terms.

🐾 Slow blinking at you — This relaxed behavior is a great sign that your cat feels comfortable around you. Try slowly blinking back!

🐾 Getting the zoomies at dawn or dusk — Cats are naturally most active around these times. Your 2 a.m. hallway Olympics may be inconvenient, but there’s some instinct behind the madness.

🐾 Making biscuits — Kneading begins during kittenhood while nursing and often continues into adulthood when cats are comfortable and content.

Cats communicate constantly—you just have to learn their language. ❤️

And sometimes their language is simply: “Please stop taking pictures. I am exhausted from doing absolutely nothing.” 😂

Understanding normal cat behavior helps us give them happier, less stressful homes—and reminds us that cats aren’t tiny dogs. They have their own social needs, instincts, and wonderfully strange ways of experiencing the world. 🐱❤️

🐾 THREE LEGS. ZERO LIMITS. MEET MORGAN! 🐾

Morgan may only have three legs, but apparently nobody bothered to tell him he’s supposed to be slowed down by that. 😂

After undergoing a leg amputation and spending some time recovering, Morgan is officially READY FOR ADOPTION! ❤️

This little tripod runs, climbs, plays, explores, and tackles the cat tree just like any other kitten. His missing leg doesn’t define him—it’s simply part of the story that got him here.

Morgan has already overcome more than most kittens ever will, and now there’s only one thing left on his recovery plan:

Find a family. 🏡

Three legs.
Four paws would be overrated anyway.
One ridiculously cute kitten looking for forever. 💜

Come meet Morgan and see for yourself just how unstoppable a three-legged kitten can be!

Please SHARE and help Morgan find his forever home! 🐾❤️
