Pray for the Oatman Burros! Chino, Paulden, Prescott, Kingman, Dewey and Ashfork clean your water trough and keep them clean and changed for a couple of weeks as birds can carry equine influenza hundreds of miles.

Hoping the remaining b***os all make a speedy recovery! Devastating!

The past 48 hours has absolutely sucked. It is heartbreaking and we are all trying to process everything going on. I just don’t know where to start.

You know when you have a sanctuary and you have this many trailers at your facility that something is not ok.

Tuesday night during feeding, Aimee and Montanna noticed that Whiskey had blood coming from his nose and was having difficulty breathing and was lethargic.

We immediately started treatment. he was given pain meds and we loaded him into the back seat of the truck and we left. As we were fueling up, my phone rang again and Aimee told us to come back because Gemini and Marvel were having issues as well.

We rushed back and hooked up the trailer. Whiskey was in bad shape so we made the decision to go to Wright Veterinary in Kingman so they received care faster.

When we got to the vets office, Whiskey was bad. We carried him out of the truck and Dr Wright started working on him while we unloaded Gemini and Marvel.

Medications were administered and we got a room in Kingman to be close. The other c**t trees had the sanctuary animals under control.

And then the s**t hit the fan. We received a call at 7am that we had lost Whiskey and Gemini over the night and Marvell was in rough shape.

We immediately called Sharon and she headed to Kingman. When she arrived, she was able to say goodbye to Gemini before her and Whiskey were loaded in the the funeral home trailer.

Sharon then called me and let me know that Marvell had gone down at a pretty quick rate. She made the call to euthanize him so he didn’t suffer and she headed to DpE.

We then received a call from Kristy letting us know that we needed to haul ass back to the sanctuary. We had a huge problem.

On our way back from Kingman, we were on the phone trying to set up the resources that we needed. The volunteers headed to the sanctuary. WE talked with Ken and Sandy and they sent a truck. Sandy handled all communications, Tiffany, Aimee and Dakota kept the sanctuary going, Scott Foster from Fosters Ranch Rescue and he delivered his trailer for us. Beth assisted with supplies and a truck. Brandon and El brought a trailer, Sam and Christy brought a trailer.

We got with Desert Pines and gave them a heads up that we were going to be inbound with many of our residents. We then started the daunting task of getting our hands on every b***o and horse. If someone was coughing, had a runny nose, showing any sign of respiratory issues, they were moved to the shoot.

Dr Moser, Dr Glassburg, Dr Garcia and so many others at DPE jumped into action to prepare so when we showed up that treatment could immediately be handled. They are currently being treated for Equine Influenza.

We had so many volunteers step up and showed up to help with this crisis.

The b***os that showed signs and symptoms were:
Socks
Xena
Rocky
Kenny
Strawberry
Sunshine
Turnpike
Assphalt
Jolene
Stevie
Reign
V
Cassidy
Lynx
Mack
Ranger
Charlie
Hudsyn
Cinderella
Elfie
Daisy
Jennifer
Ethan
Diamond
Blue
Dreamer
Red

As soon as we had a trailer full, that truck and trailer headed to Desert Pines. We wanted to space the arrivals out so we would not overwhelm DPE and their staff. Ken and Deb were the sanctuary volunteers taking g the first load to DPE.

Trailer 1
Sunshine
Strawberry
Cinderella
Red
Dreamer

We honestly thought we were going to lose Sunshine before they arrived to DPE.

When they arrived, every b***o was up thank god!

Trailer two was staffed by Brandon and El. On that trailer were:

Trailer 2
Blue
Daisy
Rocky
Kenny
Cassidy
Mack

Montanna and I had trailer three which had:
Reign
Turnpike
Assphalt
Jolene
Stevie.

Trailer 4 was staffed by Sam and Christy and held:
Socks
Hudsyn
Elfie
Jennifer
Ethan
Xena

Trailer 5 was staffed by Sonny and Raul and had:
Dreamer
Red
Diamond
Ranger
Charlie

I know I’m missing kids but just know, through the tears, we sorted b***os and loaded trailers to get them to DPE. To say our team rocked is an understatement.

Right now, we have lost
Whiskey
Gemini
Marvel
Charlie

Currently we have the following in the hospital at DPE
Sunshine
Mack
Hydsyn
V
Turnpike
Assphalt
Jolene
Stevie

Please bear with us while we navigate this road.
