"Do you have good, cheap, goats for under $500?"
Our answer to that.
1 Dose of Semen per doe (A.I.) - $250-$500+ PER HEAD
2 Doses of semen per donor doe (ET) - $500 -$1000+ PER HEAD
1 bottle of FSH - $260 (We have to buy three this year just for April/May flushes)
1 bottle of PG600 - $55 (We need two bottles for ai, IVF, and ET work for JUST April/May)
1 bottle of estrumate - $25
A.I. Procedure Cost per head - ~$60 - We are doing ONLY (6) head in May.
ET Surgery Cost per head - ~$550 - We are flushing 6 this year
Transfer fee per embryo - ~$72 a head (If they put twins in - $140 PER RECIP)
Nutrition: We purchased a pallet of Supreme Performance at $20 a bag and each donor/recip is getting 1-2 lbs of grain a day. That is 40 head eating 40lbs-80lbs of grain a day.
60 days before breeding- We are going through (4) tubs of repro mineral tubs a month - ~$100 a tub.
Vaccinations: We vaccinate all mature females annually with Vibrio, chlamydia, CD & T, Vitamin AD & E
Vibrio - $40
Chlamydia - $20
CD & T - $55
Vitamin AD & E- $60
With all this consider BEFORE babies are even guaranteed, and they aren't - The average take rate on ai and ET/IVF work is 40%-60% if you are lucky.
We are VERY small in comparison to other breeders. We have 12 mature Boer does ourselves and 30 recipient does.
Please be mindful of breeder's practices when reaching out for your projects for your fairs/expositions. We as produces pour our heart and soul into our programs, we spend many weekends, mornings, evenings, holidays, and EVERYTHING in between to produce and raise livestock.
If you are able to find $500 fall born goats on the west coast, more power to you! We unfortunately are not in the market to sell $500 goats - Nor could we afford to.
*Theses prices are all estimates and not from one particular company, more just past experience for us*
