FHV info from quick Google searches below. Hopefully this will answer some questions!

🔴 What is FHV?

In cats, the feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1) is a virus affecting primarily the upper respiratory tract and the structures of the eye.

🔴Are humans or other species in danger?

Feline herpesvirus (FHV-1) is a viral infection that is unique to cats; it is not contagious to people or dogs.

🔴How long can a cat live with FHV?

With proper management, most cats will live long, healthy lives.

🔴How common is FHV?

More than 90% of cats have been exposed to feline herpes virus (FHV) 🤯 while somethign like over 50% of cats have FHV - look into this I found a few different answers on different pages

🔴How Is FHV Treated?

There is no cure for the feline herpes once the virus is present, it remains in the body for life. The disease can be dormant and go through phases of being active. In many cats, being a carrier of the virus does not cause problems and they do not shed the virus multiple times. Any stressful situation for your cat, such as travel, boarding, or introducing new animals, can activate the virus.

🔴Things we did to help the kitties through the initial infection. L lysine support, and forti flora probiotic on there wet food daily. Steamy bathroom sits for 15 minutes multiple times a day. So if you get a kitty and he/she has a flare up these are the things I found that helped.

🔴How do we know it's FHV?

We had a PCR test done on Phillip and Michelle and both came back positive.

‼️I am not a Veterinarian, I still advise you do your own research and call your vet and talk it over with them ‼️

Still adorable tho 😍 These guys have made an awesome recovery and looking good 😉

update : I haven't been active on here in awhile and to be honest it's because I have been trying to come to terms with some things that have happened. Phillip somehow contracted FHV ( we are assuming from an outside cat while spending time on the catio ) and it spread to Michelle and the kittens. This has been a hard hit to us and we have just been focusing on getting all the cats back to as healthy as possible. Phillip and Michelle had been vaccinated against it but it still made them pretty sick. Everyone is doing better now thankfully! However this does mean that our cattery is coming to a close. We are ending our breeding program after barely getting started. Michelle and Phillip will be getting spayed/neutered and living their lives out here with us as just happy pets. The kittens will be HEAVILY discounted and hopefully find great homes that are willing to help them stay healthy. If you have been interested in one of our babies, please research about FHV first before contacting me. These kittens will be going to pet homes only of course (no Breeding)

Get in touch with me if you have any questions!
Thank you!
