Have you been wanting one of our corgis but for one reason or another havenāt made the move yet? Nowās your time. Essence Corgis is looking for approved Guardian Homes for some of our future breeding females. We are happy to announce that we have partner with a great friend who will be taking over a majority of the front end work of our breeding business. But donāt worry, Iām still here and involved. Just working on my health. I just wanted to figure out a way to not have to retire from what I love doing so much. Hereās some commonly asked questions to help you figure out if this is the right situation for you. If it is, please message us so we can match you with the perfect dog.
š¾Whatās a guardian home? A guardian home is where for a very low price you are given either a puppy or adult dog depending on whatās available . That dog lives with you and youāll treat it like your very own dog as you typically would. Provide basic care, pay for veterinary care, train him/her and spoil them as usual. The only thing that is different is that we keep breeding rights to your dog for a designated amount of time. This will vary for each dog. The most we breed our females is three litters. And my males are usually retired and living the carefree life on the couch around age 4/5 being a deadbeat dad who doesnāt even pay child support. We will cover all costs associated with breeding. During the times that we use the dog for breeding itās different male vs female. If you have a male, you are given the option to either have the female dropped off at your house for a few days. Under my guidance you will be directed over the next few days what to do and what to look for. Once they have a couple visual ties, the female will go home and that is that. If you get a female itās a little more complicated. You will notify us the day her heat cycle starts. About day 5 of her breeding we will pick her up and she will come to one of our houses where she will stay the next week to two weeks. Over that period of time we will verify that she gets bred then give you an approximate due date. Sheāll then go home until until itās time for her babies to be due.
š¾ āDo I get to select what dog or puppy I get?ā Not really. At times we may be deciding between 2 dogs to keep in our program who has similar characteristics weād like to keep. At that point weād consider letting you choose which one. But in most cases we have already decided which puppy/dog we would like to keep in our program. Our dog will be temperament tested and we will make sure the dog will be a good fit for you and your lifestyle. Our dogs are so cute we promise youāll fall in love no matter who you get.
š¾āDo I get to keep the puppies?ā This is a great question but no you do not get to keep the puppies. This is why we keep breeding rights to the dogs. We want to make sure our adult dogs are in loving homes getting one on one attention while still having access to their bloodlines to keep in our program.
š¾ āWho covers the cost in case of an emergency?ā If there is any kind of emergency not related to breeding that is your responsibility. Emergencies can be expensive. We recommend getting insurance, we use Trupanion. We are partnered with them and they are a great company with many great benefits. If insurance is not something youāre willing to look into then I recommend looking into programs like CareCredit, ScratchPay and WithCherry. Anything that is an emergency related to breeding is our responsibility.
š¾ āWhat happens when theyāre done breeding?ā Once the contract is complete we will pay to spray or neuter the dog and then he or she will be transferred into your name. At this point the contract will be void and you will sign our typical contract that anyone who gets one of our dogs.
š¾ ā Do we have to live in a certain area?ā
While we prefer that our guardian homes are within 3 hours of Patchogue NY or Bellevue MI, itās not a requirement. There are just extra hoops we have to jump through before sending the dog long distance.
š¾ āWhat other requirements are there?ā
You must keep the dog in good shape at all times. The dog should not ever be underweight, overweight or showing any other signs of neglect. The dog must stay on a nutritionally based diet diet approved by the WSAVA. No vegan or raw as there is no scientifically proven data proving it is nutritionally balanced. There are no exceptions to this. They also must stay on year round flea, tick and heartworm prevention.
š¾ āWhat happens if I canāt keep the dog anymore?ā If for whatever reason you canāt keep the dog he or she must return back to us. It doesnāt matter if it is while youāre under a guardian contract or our typical contract.
š¶š¶Please note that until the contract is voided by me the dog can not be spayed or neutered. If so you will be charged the price of one of our dogs which is $2,500.š¶š¶
