It is difficult to imagine the beauty of black cats ever being regarded as something evil, but even in modern times superstition causes some people to consider them a bad omen. There is of course no truth to this - a black cat is the same as any other cat, only wearing a different coat, but sadly it does put them at a significantly greater risk - especially during Halloween. Many people will chase or frighten away a cat they don't want around, but some use it as an excuse to cause harm - often through malice rather than ignorance, and cats have been badly injured and killed at the hands of those who truly are evil. No animal deserves that.
We know everyone here does so instinctively, but please join us in encouraging others to keep cats - and other house pets - indoors where possible, and to be vigilant for those needing help. Let's make it a safe and fun holiday - for everyone.
