So thankful for the rain and equally thankful to the best “ground guy” around aka Jimmy Lewis. We have an arena, a round pen, a barrel pad and a training track that always needs his attention. Thanks for all you do to keep the Double Staple Ranch running like a well oiled machine.

The man, the myth, the legend.

When your c**ts come to the Double Staple Ranch this guy right here is the charge they’ll be under. While we all have a hand in their care and we work together to ensure the c**ts are getting exactly what they need, it’s Jimmy that spends countless hours with them every day. He’s at the barn before the sun rises and often the last one to walk back home. He’s got a way with the horses and always has. He was born to be horse back and if you drive up on a random Monday you’re sure to find him in the round pen with one of his young ones. But not to worry, he’s never too busy for a long chat or to tell you a story about whichever c**t he’s got saddled up 😉

Dawn makes riding babies look as easy as pie! We’ve taken a little time off hauling the c**ts to barrel races but we’re excited to get back in the game in January! We’ve got an amazing line up going, we seriously cannot wait to see what this crew has in store for us.

I walked through our 12 horse barn a few mornings ago and there’s only one stall empty. We’ve had a gloriously busy fall, riding c**ts, branding calves, helping neighbors and prepping for the baby who will be here soooo soon (!!!!!) We’ll be taking on more c**ts come the end of the month. Call us 🤠📞 to reserve a spot for your young ones (or old ones that need a little refresher course lol)!

Cora's first time dragging calves and the only thing she was worried about was the smoke from the brand lol. She handled everything so well and with a confidence of a much older and experienced horse. Once again, we're blown away and so thankful for these amazing creatures that we get to swing a leg over every morning.

Sometimes we all need a little help from a friend. Same thing with the babies, so we like to put an older more confident horse in with them during the first few rides to settle them down a bit. It also keeps Jimmy safe. No matter how awesome or gentle a c**t has presented we always sit on the side of caution. If something starts to go sideways Bo can step in with the older horse and diffuse the situation before it gets too hairy lol.

We were standing around at the barn last night chitchatting about what the coming days held and before we knew it the weanlings were right in the middle of things begging for some love and the jealous dogs weren’t far behind. We love that our horses actually WANT to hang out with us, we have worked tirelessly as a family to get to this place and it’s beyond rewarding to see our hard work pay off.

Branding days are always long, hot and usually end in faces full of dirt and jeans full of s**t lol. But they’re also some of our favorite days. We laugh, we argue, and then we laugh about why we were arguing. Bo and Kayla ran the T4 Ranch for 10 years and in that time we all learned ALOT about what to and not to do. It’s been so nice taking that knowledge and applying it to our own cattle. While having our own cattle is a new adventure, the four of us are old hands at this work 😜

🧸 TEDDY🧸 is ready to go on! At least 16 hands (haven’t measured him in awhile), he’s a BIG BOY. He’s completely patterned on barrels, he’s been hauled, stands tied (and usually asleep see the last pic 😂) at the trailer. I’ve given lessons off of him, ranched on him and drug calves off him. Honestly Ive just got to get rid of some horses and I’m more of a mare person 🙃 I think he’d make a good kids horse (a handy kid with handy parents because in typical lazy horse style he can be a bit of a pickle sometimes and needs a talking to every now and then.) he’s easy to shoe and easy to haul. I just want him to go to a good place that has more time for him! He’s got a soft spot in my heart because he’s out of my good rodeo mare Kelly. He’s bred to be a barrel horse for sure!
