🚨 Photo Warning 🚨
(Some of these images may be a little unpleasant to see, but they’re important examples of what I’ve found while grooming.)
🐾 More Than Just a Haircut 🐾
At a few different appointments this week, I came across health concerns that owners hadn’t noticed—like a puncture wound on a dog’s leg. Discoveries like these remind me why my background and training are so important in what I do.
I’ve worked with animals my whole life. After high school, I went straight into veterinary medicine and spent years as a veterinary technician. That hands-on experience taught me how to recognize subtle health issues, safely handle pets, and put their well-being first.
Grooming wasn’t my original plan—it kind of found me. But once I stepped into the grooming world, I realized how much I love it. It combines everything I value: helping pets, giving owners peace of mind, and making pups feel their best.
Something many pet parents don’t know is that grooming is an unregulated industry. There are no required certifications or formal training programs. That means not every groomer has the knowledge to recognize health problems or handle pets with medical awareness.
Over the years, I’ve referred pets directly to the vet for things I’ve noticed while grooming—ear infections, dental disease, lumps, wounds, and more. One case that has always stayed with me was a mastiff who came in with a swollen toe. I strongly urged the owner to have it checked out and refused to groom him until they did. My manager wasn’t happy with me, and I almost lost my job over it—but I knew I had to stand my ground.
A few months later, that same owner came back and personally thanked me. The “funny-looking” toe had turned out to be bone cancer, and while the dog had to have his leg amputated, catching it when we did made all the difference. That single toe was the only sign.
📸 The photos I’m sharing here are just a few real examples of things I’ve personally caught and referred to the vet. They’re not pretty, but they’re reminders of why I take my role so seriously.
Grooming isn’t just about looking good—it’s about safety, health, and peace of mind. 💛🐶
