🐾✨ Miss Luna’s Transformation ✨🐾
This beautiful girl is Luna — a 13-year-old German Shepherd/Chow mix who came to me after having a previous grooming experience that unfortunately left her coat heavily compromised. Her coat had been shaved down completely multiple times in the past, and during this season’s coat blow it became very impacted and difficult for her skin and coat to regulate properly.
Double-coated breeds like Shepherds, Chows, Huskies, Pyrenees, and similar breeds are generally NOT meant to be shaved unless medically necessary. Their coat helps regulate temperature, protects the skin, and supports healthy coat growth. In most cases, a thorough deshed treatment and silhouette trim is the healthiest and safest option 🐶💛
For Luna, our goal was to preserve as much healthy coat as possible while still making her comfortable. There were a few heavily impacted areas that did need to be shaved shorter, but due to her age and comfort level, we felt it was best and safest for her overall wellbeing.
This groom was also split into TWO separate days because sweet Luna gets tired easily, and I never want to push a senior baby past their limits. Low stress, comfort, and safety will always come first here 🐾❤️

Please don’t trust just anyone with your double-coated babies. Proper coat care makes such a huge difference, especially for senior dogs and heavily shedding breeds. Make sure your groomer understands coat preservation, skin health, and the specific needs of double-coated dogs — even in difficult situations like this one.
Luna did absolutely amazing and I’m so proud of her 🥹🐾
