With their years of experience, Dr. Wolf and Dr. Tsai are focused on the health, welfare, and comfort of the pets who have been entrusted to them. Because each patient’s situation is unique, our doctors partner with the family to fully understand a pet’s history & lifestyle, and use that information to formulate the most personalized & effective treatment plan possible for each patient. They are strong proponents of pain management and palliative care, and believe that even if a pet’s condition is incurable, chronic, or terminal, there is always a way to make them feel better. Here at Companion Animal Hospital & Avian/Exotic Clinic pets are not just patients, they're family. On September 15, 2001, Dr. Wolf and Dr. Tsai were part of a small group of veterinarians who were stationed on West St. at ground zero in NYC, where they provided medical care to the elite search & rescue dogs working 24/7 in severely dangerous conditions, searching for victims in the rubble of the fallen World Trade Center.

Here is a heartfelt & relatable essay about the joy & challenges of managing an aging pet from Dr. Wolf’s nephew, Josh Wolf:

I met my cat Jack in 2019. His former family needed to rehome him, and their nanny, a friend of mine, connected me with them.
Jack’s got presence. He’s a big cat. Not overweight, nor really that meaty. Just big. He’s got funky front paws, each adorned with two extra toes. And his black and white coat sits in stark contrast to his small pink nose and bright green eyes. He’s loud with a deep voice and a powerful purr. And he’s persistent. Always curious, always hungry, and always in need of a head kiss.
Jack’s a good friend. He sits with me while I garden, watches me while I work, and rests with me while I sleep. He’s always nearby to keep me company.
Jack is eighteen now. His face is gray, and his body is slimmer. He wobbles when he walks and gets stuck moving in circles. He can’t see as well as he used to, and his hearing is starting to go. He sticks to the floor because he can’t jump onto furniture anymore. And he has trouble using his litter box, so he uses p*e pads now.
Experiencing him age has been hard, for both of us.
He’s the same cat, with the same personality. He’s still loud. He’s still kicking. But he can’t do the things he used to do, and I can tell it weighs on him. I see him hesitate to take steps, wince when he stretches his joints, and struggle to find the food that’s in front of him.
Our relationship has changed as he’s aged. He needs more from me. No one tells you about how much work it takes to support an aging pet. How difficult it is. The loss of what was and the worry about what will be.
Watching him struggle hurts. But more than that, it sucks knowing that there’s nothing I can do to change things. I can be there for him though. So that’s what I do. I help him onto the furniture. I sit with him while he eats. I take him outside on adventures in the yard. And I let him know I love him.
