🐾Happy Friday From Our Adoptable Rats In Foster Care! 🐾

Did you know that fostering is JUST as important as adopting is? The act of fostering is incredibly beneficial not only for our shelter, but especially for the animals. It allows us to free up more space at our shelter to rescue more animals, while simultaneously gaining insights into their personalities!

💛Butter💛
Hi, I'm Butter! I'm large and in charge! Sometimes Creamy & Prozac forget who's the boss, and I happily remind them! I'm shy at first, but after some time I bond with my human and enjoy climbing up on people (and sniffing inside their ears). I explore a lot with my mouth. I hope you don't mind light nips on your fingers and toes! I love free roam, and get a bit antsy if I'm in my cage for too long. I'm not very graceful, especially with my stumpy tail, but that doesn't stop me from trying to follow my small friends on their adventures.

⚡️Prozac ⚡️
My name is Prozac. Remember it! I'm small but super feisty. I started my life in a hoarding home with 500 other rats - can you believe it? The experience traumatized me a bit, and I can be jumpy and reactive, especially at first. Please be patient with me, and remember that although I might bite when we first meet, time and love will help me slowly get more comfortable with you. Once I know you're a safe person, I'll bond with you and climb all over you! I am a pretty clever rat, and would do well with a lot of puzzles, enrichment, and free roam. My vision isn't great, so you'll often see me swaying to get a better sense of my surroundings

🦀Cream of Crab 🦀
I'm Cream! Nice to meet you! I'm small, active, and love adventuring once I'm comfortable! I am very energetic and playful! I'm a little skittish at first, but once I'm comfortable I might climb on you! Free roam is a favorite of mine, but be careful - I am super fast! I also love climbing on everything, from lamp posts to windowsills. My foster family put green food coloring on my tail to tell me apart from Prozac, which helps them a lot!

🐶🌊Keep Your Pup Afloat With A Life Jacket From Paws at the Mall!🌊🐶

Summertime is almost here & and that means more time at the beach, pool, and out on the boat with both our four and two legged best friends. While many dogs enjoy the water, not every pup is a strong swimmer and even experienced water dogs can find themselves in tricky situations. This includes exerting so much energy that they become tired, getting caught in currents, or struggling to get back onto boats/land. A properly fitted life jacket can make all the difference between in keeping the day safe & fun!

🐾It is extremely important for all dog owners to know about water safety, especially if your pooch loves to join you on your summer outings. Being knowledgeable on the subject is crucial, as we have compiled a list of tips for your next adventure.

DO:
✅put a life jacket on them to ensure safety
✅have fresh water for drinking
✅practice exposure to water/boats before outing

Do NOT:
❎attach a leash to them while they swim
❎tie your dog to any boat/object in the water
*Even strong swimmers can panic, become tangled, get pulled under by currents, or become injured if attached to a leash, dock, boat, or other object in the water*

Be Kind to Animals Week was established in 1915 to promote compassion, welfare, and protection for all creatures. Celebrated annually during the first full week of May, it encourages animal welfare in all facets including adoption, humane education, and acts of kindness towards pets, wildlife, and farm animals!

This week, we’ve been celebrating the amazing animals who remind us every day that love has four paws, wagging tails, and the sweetest of purrs. 🌟From Shelter Life to The Spoiled Life: Join Us For A Happy Tale Rat Update!🌟

These three adorable rats went from the shelter life to the spoiled pet life in one amazing adoption story! Zoloft, Lexapro, and Paxil were all adopted from Paws at the Mall about two months ago and are now enjoying luxury. Their adopter provided us with these picture updates, stating that they have been doing well & that they are so active it can be hard to snap good pictures! They are described as being quite playful as well, which is so lovely to hear as it goes to show just how awesome they have settled in. We are so grateful for our adopters & the entire community of Rat enthusiasts, for seeing just how awesome these lil guys are 💞🐀

Thank you so much for the overwhelming support, kind messages, and shared memories following our announcement about PAWS at the Mall. 💙

We wanted to provide a quick update: we are now in discussions with the new ownership regarding a potential future location for PAWS and hope to share more information as plans continue to develop.

We truly appreciate your patience, understanding, and continued support while we work through next steps. 💙

After more than 5 1/2 years, PAWS at the Mall will be closing its current location at the end of May. 💙

Since opening during COVID in 2020, PAWS became so much more than an adoption center. It became a place where children learned compassion, families made memories, volunteers connected with the community, and more than 2,500 animals found homes.

Beyond adoptions, PAWS also helped support the shelter through retail sales, donations, outreach opportunities, and increased visibility for animals often overlooked in traditional shelter settings.

While this chapter is coming to a close, we are incredibly grateful for the impact PAWS had on both the animals and the community over the past 5 1/2 years.

We know many questions are coming, including what happens next for the animals, programs, and future outreach efforts, and we’ll continue sharing updates as plans evolve.

🤠 🐎Meet Cowboy and Cowgirl Pearl 🤍 — The Cutest Rootin'-Tootin' Duo This Side Of The Wild West! 🐎🤠

These two bonded besties are ready to ride off into the sunset & straight into your heart! Cowboy & Cowgirl Pearl are both 6 months old, still quite young and learning how to navigate the wild west of the world. While they may still be a bit shy, these buckaroos are getting more confident with every passing day!🌟

Cowboy is pictured first, having the handsome black markings around his eyes & covering his ears. He definitely is the more lowkey one out of the pair, having a sweet & curious disposition. Cowboy does highly enjoy hanging in his pumpkin bed, loving to relax and unwind after a day long day of yee-hawing (aka playing with his sister). Cowgirl Pearl is the more outgoing part of the dynamic duo, usually being the one to start the controlled chaos of playtime. She is super beautiful with having a white coat and harlequin features, as those spots of brown tabby make her so unique!☆♘☆

Cowboy & Cowgirl Pearl would thrive in a home that is patient with them, understanding that the world of the wild wild west can be quite daunting! These two are so incredibly sweet, that we know they will form such a strong bond with their future adopter. They both do well with other cats, and since they are a bonded pair they do have to go home together. Double the love, double the purrs, and double the high-noon zoomies😼💞
