Muh'Mushroom Farm

Muh'Mushroom Farm This page will log the development of my gourmet, edible mushroom farm. It's a dream I never followed, but which I will now chase with unbridled fervor!

Someday btw, I'll have a nice professional logo designed. All this is just something to have up in the meantime.

Once settled in a permanent house in Colombia, the first mushrooms to grow will be portabellas. They're a lot of work to grow indoors, but pretty much the easiest possible mushroom to grow outdoors. I could easily harvest anywhere from ten to twenty pounds a week if the flush cycles are staged correctly (It will come from experience).

I will attempt to sell them to locals, or dried on the internet; and throw every penny earned back into Muh'Mushroom Farm to keep on slowly amassing the equipment I need.

I will be getting back to the business of a small/local mushroom farm sometime in the next six months or so. I will shortly be moving down to the nation of Columbia and live in the forest in an area that happily could not be MORE ideal for mushroom growing.

This time however, instead of a big massive push to get it rolling, it will be slowly cultivated and nurtured with much LOOOOOOOVE. I'll start with perhaps two or three strains of mushrooms: Probably Golden Oysters, Lion's Mane and Sh*takes.

Over the course of perhaps three to five years I intend to slowly nurture perhaps two greenhouses worth of 'ongitos' (happy mushrooms

So the reality of growing mushrooms is they simply don't respond to what I'm starting to refer to as 'chainsaw energy'...which is usually how I go after a project; with wild, untamed, unrefined, raw energy. They respond to 'Bonsai Pruning Energy' which is far more aware, thoughtful, refined, exquisite...and ironically far more energetic than 'Chainsaw Energy'.

So I'm going to not be posting anything (most likely anyway) for a number of months on this page. Its going to take me six months to a year to begin getting some good genetics sorted out and tested etc. So my 'big plan' is to not have any plans, and not seek to take Muh'Mushroom Farm anywhere. Rather, I am going to 'set it free' and let it go where it will go, as I hunt down those needed good genetics.

It feels much more exciting this way :-D

The first harvest from muh'mushroom garden is VERY delicious. I'll need to zero in on better growth parameters over the next few months though (if there's every going to be a commercial operation around here).

But for now, there'll at least be delicious mushrooms around here from time to time!

I was also pretty sure I'd gotten inspiration for 'The Mushroom Doctor' from somewhere!

And here is a mature case of trichoderma that has managed to infect and spoil an entire bag of developing mycelium. This sack is now garbage and hath been cursed (by moi) as a Satanic W***E.

In all seriousness, this contaminant must have just been sitting there in the sack giggling as I checked the sacks for contaminants with due vigilance because it was just like..BOOM!!! There it was infecting the whole sack tonight where I couldn't even spot it on prior checks.

It was sort of like finding an inmate in solitary confinement had escaped.

Okay here is the dreaded Green Mold (Trichoderma): The ARCH-NEMESIS of developing mycelial networks. One can almost think of growing mushrooms as an unending battle of totally aware vigilance....paying attention to as many possible vectors of contamination....in order to avoid this contaminant.
