"Hamming it up" best described Hammer yesterday as a CU Denver film crew shot scenes at Spirit Ranch JSP. When a former CT student contacted me in January to inquire about shooting scenes at Spirit Ranch, we immediately said, "Yes!"
It was a cold, blustery day, but cast, crew, horses, and I had such a great time! I wasn't sure what to expect, but I knew it would be interesting..., and it was: The crew was gracious, kind, and engaging with the horses, the property, and me. I wasn't sure how Hammer would react to "Lights, Camera, Action!" but he was his gregarious self and ate it up!
The plot of Leo's short film: a young man sells his beloved horse due to financial issues, but then blackmails a wanted criminal into stealing his horse back. Hammer is in a scene where the young man says an emotional goodbye to Hammer and hands off the money to his new owner. Ariel was a Barbie rockstar in her scene tied to the hitching post as the young man plots to get his horse back. Then, there is the final scene where Hammer and his beloved owner are reunited and stroll the arena together.
Those of you who have known me since high school know I love this! We were all in our element yesterday: horses, camera, action! In May, CU Denver hosts a film festival where we can see the production of our day of fun-filled drama! I'll keep you posted, but until then...
