Our Lamar Veterinarian Clinic family is heartbroken to share that our beloved Dr. Nottingham has passed. Like many of you, we are in shock! However, we can just see Dr. Nott now playing and loving on the many pets and animals he has cared for over the past 50 years. He played such a critical part in the growth of Lamar Veterinary Clinic, and all who knew him loved him! Dr. Nottingham’s service to his clients and patients was unmeasurable and self-sacrificing.
Dr. Nottingham devoted a lifetime to the animals and their families of Paris and the surrounding communities. He began his career at Lamar Vet Clinic in 1978 after graduating from Kansas State College of Veterinary Medicine and just retired from our clinic just a short 17 months ago.
In the medical field, Dr. Nottingham was known for his steady hands during surgeries; his kind, loving eyes; and his deep care for the pets he served. For most of his career, Dr Nottingham worked with large animals and then later transitioned to mostly small animal care. In the past few years on occasion, Dr. Nottingham would make a house or farm call for a long-term client that could no longer bring their pet to the clinic….he had a huge heart!
Dr. Nottingham’s team and clients remember his quiet humor, his punctuality, and those moments that become part of the clinic lore --- like his “feet up,” quick 2:00p.m. power naps, and perhaps the rule that if you’re just making it on time, you’re late! Dr Nottingham loved mentoring and sharing with others his craft of performing difficult surgeries. Oftentimes, his surgery room would be full of young people interested in the DVM profession, and on occasion, you might find a very curious sales rep peaking in as well.
Dr. Nottingham was a devoted veterinarian who listened well, who noticed the small things, and who practiced medicine with consistency and heart. Dr. Nottingham’s legacy lives on in the animals he cared for and the people who trusted him for decades as well as the young people and DVMs he mentored. In closing, Dr. Nottingham also taught us, "Life is easy, people are hard."
I recall when Dr. Nottingham shared with me the many times he and his parents would attend church on Sunday mornings back in Kansas. I think he would want us to share, "Tell your people how much they mean to you and how much you love them.... often," as we don't know when our God will call us home, and we may be "In Heaven by Noon."
Dr. Nott, you are loved and will be MISSED eternally! 🤍🪽
