Long post, but please read. šŸ’”

Well friends, it’s time for an update on Cameron, and not the one we wanted to make.

We got the results of his test back a couple of weeks ago, so have since just been hoping for some sort of miracle to make him better.
The test we had done (thanks to your generous support) was to see if he has Myasthenia Gravis, which would’ve explained all of his symptoms, and in dogs it will spontaneously resolve 70-80% of the time, you just have to manage symptoms until that happens.
Unfortunately, he does not have MG, which means his enlarged esophagus and muscle weakness is a lifelong condition. It is manageable, but not for a dog in Cameron’s situation.
He would need to be in a home with someone who is able to feed him very small meals several times a day, as well as monitor his water intake, and make sure he is consuming enough.
*If you know anyone who would be willing and able to do this, please, this is when we need you to speak up.*

As it is, we have finally made the decision that it’s time to help Cameron cross the Rainbow Bridge if no suitable adopter is found SOON. He will not survive the heat this summer being at the kennels, bc as mentioned, he needs help keeping water down. He will dehydrate and suffer, and we cannot let that happen.
Bless his heart, he is the sweetest thing, and he wants to run and play with the other dogs, but it’s just not gonna happen. And it’s not fair to him to allow him to have such a low quality of life, knowing there is no hope for improvement.

I personally have spent every single day since we got his Bailey chair at the kennels for a hour to hour and a half making sure he’s fed and able to keep it down. That’s in addition to several times also taking care of the other 18 dogs at the kennels, and my own 3 dogs at home. I have spent a lot of time with him, as have our other members and volunteers, and this is not a decision that has been made lightly.

Please, if you are able to care for Cameron, let us know ASAP. We know it’s a big ask, but we had to try one last time to find him a home.
If no one steps up, keep us all in your thoughts and prayers as we deal with saying goodbye to this beautiful boy. šŸ˜žšŸ’™

Who would love to come volunteer with us on Tuesdays? Anyone? Our beloved Tuesday volunteer group, who has taken care of the dogs on Tuesdays for many years now is beginning to have to step away from volunteering at our shelter. Age and health-related issues are becoming an unwelcome reality for several of our longtime volunteers. We need some new people to join our group.

What does volunteering entail? Pretty much whatever you are comfortable doing. Cleaning kennels, walking dogs, sitting and brushing/socializing dogs, etc. Not physically fast? Neither are we. Our group is mostly people over 60. We don’t worry about being fast. We just worry about taking good care of the dogs. Times are flexible; we don’t keep regular business hours.

Please consider joining us. No, you won’t want to take all the dogs home. People think that, but it’s not true. All of us love dogs, but we all realize that we can’t take them all home. All we can do is help them find homes. And that’s what we have been doing successfully since 1997. Please join us and experience first hand making a difference in the lives of some pretty amazing dogs.

Feel free to message us with questions.
