Imagine getting a phone call that your friend was in an abusive domestic violence situation and only had hours to flee with their children, pets and essentials to safety. What would you do? Shelter Our Pets receives this type of call more times than most people would think. When this call is received, there
are people in place to ensure all aspects are covered to bring the pets to safety. Shelter Our Pets is an all-volunteer, nonprofit, recognized 501(c)3, corporation serving New Jersey and beyond. Our mission is to provide a safe haven for the pets of victims of domestic violence who are fleeing their abusive situations and Military Veterans in crisis. Shelter Our Pets assists people seeking safety from violence by providing alternatives to giving up a beloved pet, leaving a pet behind in a potentially dangerous situation or continuing to subject themselves and their pets to abuse. While in our care, we provide specialized services, offering loving care and shelter to pets of abuse victims, either with a foster family or at an area kennel, until they can be reunited with their owners. We also provide Veterinary Services for the animals as well as any supplies and food necessary to the foster parent. Our long-term vision is to create housing where abuse survivors can reside with their pets while they rebuild their lives. With your help, together, we can make the world a safer place for abuse victims and their pets.
