Red tide has recently been found in East, west, and North bays. This toxin can cause disease in domestic dogs in cats. Mild exposure can cause skin irritation and GI upset. If dead fish or contaminated water are consumed, neurological signs along with decreased heart rate, low blood pressure or apnea may be seen. There are no antidotes to the toxin, only supportive treatment. It is advised to keep pets away from known affected areas until testing is safe for humans.

There have been several reported cases of rabies in the Bay county area over the last several months. This is a highly contagious and fatal virus that can be spread via blood and saliva. If contracted it is 100% fatal. Please make sure all pets are up to date and avoid contact with wild life.
