The fun and learning didn’t stop after the morning field trip session! 🩺

We then had the privilege of hosting a group of middle and high school students from Sowal Homeschoolers for a more advanced, higher-level experience focused on veterinary medicine and real-world problem solving.

The students worked through a case study based on an actual case Dr. Knox has treated in the past. They formed teams, used laptops, and even worked through the case using the same digital software our clinic uses every day. After observing a physical exam on a dog, the students discussed possible causes for the symptoms the patient was “presenting with.”

The group then moved into the x-ray room where they learned how radiographs are taken and reviewed real x-rays to help determine the next steps for treatment. After discussing the findings together, the students decided surgery would be the best treatment option for the patient.

Dr. Knox then walked the students through what happens during surgery, what instruments are included in a surgical pack, and what veterinary teams must prepare before procedures. One student even got to try on a cone just like the patient would wear after surgery! 🐶

To finish the experience, the students put their math skills to work by calculating the correct medication dosages the dog would be prescribed to go home with.

It was such an incredible afternoon watching these students think critically, collaborate together, and experience firsthand what veterinary medicine is really like. We loved getting to share our passion for helping pets heal people with the next generation! 💙

What an amazing opportunity we had hosting the Sowal Homeschoolers for a veterinary field trip to our clinic! 🩺

We welcomed over 30 elementary students for a morning filled with hands-on learning, curiosity, and fun! From the moment they arrived, the students were officially part of the veterinary team with custom “Dr.” name tags to wear during their experience. The students observed a real physical exam on a dog, completed their own Pet Health Sheets during the exam, and even worked together to come up with a diagnosis and treatment plan!

The learning continued as they rotated through interactive stations focused on x-rays, dentals, and surgery. The kids even suited up with surgical caps and masks before stepping into the surgery suite! One of the highlights was getting to practice reading real x-rays to determine what a dog may have eaten or what might be inside of it after palpating a stuffed dog patient for clues. 🐶🩻

The students were thrilled to take home their very own At-Home Vet Bags filled with supplies and goodies to continue practicing their veterinary skills at home with their stuffed animals and even their own pets!

It was incredible to see these young minds so engaged and excited about veterinary medicine, animal care, and science. We loved sharing what we do and hopefully inspiring some future veterinarians along the way!

🇺🇸 Gulf Winds Animal Hospital will be CLOSED on Monday, May 25th in observance of Memorial Day.

Yesterday, we had a wonderful time celebrating with our team during a Memorial Day cookout lunch, and Dr. Knox grilled up some delicious food for everyone! We are so thankful for this incredible staff and for the sacrifices made by those who have served our country. ❤️🤍💙

We hope everyone has a safe and meaningful Memorial Day weekend with family, friends, and pets! 🐾

Gulf Winds had the privilege of being part of Wild Heron’s Art in the Park event last Saturday! 🎨

It was such a fun day connecting with our community, enjoying the beautiful setting, and meeting so many wonderful people (and pets!). We loved being part of such a vibrant local event and sharing what we do at Gulf Winds Animal Hospital!

We’re so grateful for the opportunity to connect with our community, meet new faces, and share tips on keeping your pets happy and healthy. Building these relationships and continuing to grow our family of clients means the world to us.

A special highlight was Britta getting to meet some very friendly pups at the talk, which made the evening even more fun! 🐶
