This is a wonderful story about a beautiful Golden boy, Spencer. In addition to his work at the marathon, he has been a well-loved therapy dog helping children to learn to read. If you're so inclined, the artist, Tom Mosser, Is donating $100 for every print sold to The Golden Retriever Lifetime Study - a super valuable resource. I think someone is cutting onions here again...

Happy Christmas Eve Eve! For all who celebrate - have a very Merry Christmas! As you can see, I'll be working my other job this weekend - as one of Santa's E.L.V.E.S. 😃

I'll be available for telemedicine consults (for established patients) on Tuesday, December 27 and then back seeing appointments in the mobile on Thursday, December 29.

Have fun, stay safe and enjoy the holiday!

Happy Monday-Before-Thanksgiving, all!

We'll be off Wednesday and back in the practice on Monday, November 28. Since no one ever wants us on Black Friday, I thought I'd give the mobile (and Bea!) a break! If my clients reading this need anything - please get with us tomorrow, so we can help! We want to keep everyone out of the ER over the holiday weekend!

And...you didn't think I'd forget about my annual Thanksgiving Day food post, did you?

Experts at Tufts University in Grafton shared tips with MassLive that every dog owner should know.

Happy Monday Morning, all!

So, it's shaping up to be an interesting week here in Southwest Florida! Like everyone else, we are planning for the worst and hoping for the best. If you need us - please let us know at your earliest convenience. We're trying to conserve our gasoline - many stations here are already out of gas - so we're trying to maximize our travel.

If Ian stays on the current course we'll be in for a blustery time on Thursday and Friday - so probably won't be seeing appointments those days.

BUT, if Ian changes course - we'll be out as soon as it's safe to do so!

For my Florida friends, be safe and let us know if you need anything. For my friends who aren't in Florida, the pink section of the map is where we are! Yikes!

This graphic shows an approximate representation of coastal areas under a hurricane warning (red), hurricane watch (pink), tropical storm warning (blue) and tropical storm watch (yellow). The orange circle indicates the current position of the center of the tropical cyclone. The black line, when sel...

Happy Wednesday, all!

Lots of stuff going on over here. Some good, some, well, not so good. We had a water pipe burst here at the house. It was a gusher! Before we knew it (it happened in the middle of the night) we had about an inch of water on the floor.

Good Dog Bradley alerted us - his sharp barks pulled us out of deep sleep. Of course, since I was sound asleep, I was groggy when I jumped out of bed to see what the problem was. I slipped in the water and went down like the proverbial ton of bricks. So glad I didn't break anything - just a nasty gash on my arm. It wasn't pretty, but could have been worse.

Ed and I sprang into action. Isn't it a good thing that my cabinet-maker husband has two heavy duty Wet/Dry Shop Vacs! Yeah! We vacuumed up the water then mopped with towels, blankets and almost anything else we could find. By about 4:00 am we were dry enough to fall back into bed for a nap before getting up to start the work day.

Now we're looking at replacing flooring and some dry wall. Once again, I feel such gratitude that this wasn't worse, but what a mess!

I've decided to close the practice for a couple of weeks to allow us to get the work done. We'll be closed the weeks of June 6 through June 19. We'll be back, hopefully, with new floors and walls on Monday, June 20. Please let us know ASAP if you need anything.

Thanks for understanding! Photo of Siesta Beach I took a few years ago. Won't be there this year, but it's a beautiful spot!

Good Saturday morning, all!

Today is World Veterinary Day. This is the day to celebrate veterinarians, our work and our impact. This year's theme is Resilience - and couldn't be more apropos. Without sounding too dramatic, veterinarians are at the forefronts of both human and veterinary health daily. We are a truly amazing group.

Those who know me, know that I prefer to work quietly and in the background. However, today I am asking that anyone who knows a veterinarian, please post on social media, or even drop a quick email or snail mail. I'm sure your veterinarian would love to hear a cheery 'Thank you' or caring 'How are you?' Most of us have worked tirelessly through the pandemic and could use a word of encouragement or gratitude.

Here's to all my amazing veterinary colleagues! We rock!

Happy Saturday evening, all!

I can only imagine that most of you who celebrate Christmas are waaayyy ahead of me! I have been fighting the Nasty Cough Disease (NOT flu or Covid!) that hit our house earlier this week. So, no shopping or baking for me today. I wrapped a few presents - that's it. Well, not quite - I managed to throw a pot of Hot and Sour Soup together - medicinal purposes, you know.

I've decided to close the practice the week between Christmas and New Year's Day. I'm planning to hang out and rest. We'll be back, hopefully healthy and raring to go on Monday, January 3, 2022.

Please let us know as early this week as possible if you need anything, ok?

This picture of Baleigh and me was taken a couple of years ago, but, amazingly, neither of us has aged! ; )

Stay healthy everyone!

Happy Thursday morning, all!

Well, next week is Thanksgiving - can you believe it? I don't know about you, but I really believe time is speeding up. We'll be off Wednesday through Friday so please let us know ASAP if you need something.

Now, you really didn't think I'd forget about my annual Thanksgiving PSA, did you? This year I thought I'd list things that (in general) can be fed IN SMALL QUANTITIES to MOST dogs. I usually do the No-No List - so this is a new twist!

My dogs generally get Thanksgiving veggies - it's what's for dinner in my plant-based household!

Everyone likes to sneak their furry friends a special treat during Thanksgiving, but how do you know what foods are safe? Take a peak here at some traditional holiday foods you can share with your pets.

Happy Thursday, all!

Well, as if we didn't have enough to worry about - food makers have decided to use the term 'birch sugar' in ingredient lists instead of xylitol.

Soooo...if you're checking ingredients, always look for BOTH xylitol AND Birch Sugar. While we humans can eat it, it is super dangerous to dogs and cats.

Here's a good article from the FDA:

This sugar substitute, found in some human foods and dental products, can be poisonous to your dog.
