🐾 A Little Catch-Up + Some Very Special Boys 🐾

We owe everyone an apology for being a bit quiet lately — between the holidays, the weather, and these three boys, we have been BUSY in the best (and hardest) ways.

Recently, we took in two owner-surrendered shepherds, Caleb and Jordan, who had very little socialization outside of their home. We truly started from square one — literal leash training. Despite that, they are incredibly trusting, eager to please, and soaking up everything we’re teaching them. They want so badly to do the right thing, and it’s been amazing to watch them blossom.

We are actively reaching out to rescue partners and are desperately trying to find placement for them.
If you are:
• A rescue partner with availability
• OR a home with shepherd experience AND a fully fenced-in yard

📧 Please reach out to us at [email protected]

We also want to give a HUGE shout-out to Monson Small Animal Clinic - Dr. Pienkos and her incredible team. Not only did they neuter Caleb and Jordan, but they also removed a mass from Jordan’s elbow, and have gone above and beyond caring for Poseidon during his aftercare (and yes — he’s doing AMAZING!).

If you know anyone looking for a Bully X — rescue or private home — Poseidon is still looking too. Please contact us!

All three of these boys came to us as special cases, each with their own quirks and past challenges. Dr. Pienkos didn’t hesitate for a second — she created thoughtful plans, made sure every dog had exactly what they needed, and helped prepare them for fresh starts and brighter futures.

We are so grateful for the compassion, teamwork, and dedication that makes this work possible. 💙

✨ Happy New Year from all of us — and from Caleb, Jordan, and Poseidon. Their best chapters are still ahead. ✨

💙 Meet Poseidon 💙

Poseidon is a 2-year-old male pit bull mix who found himself at Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital in West Springfield late last night after being involved in a serious dog fight. He sustained multiple lacerations and is undergoing sedation this morning so his injuries can be properly treated.

Unfortunately, this situation appears to be the result of a new dog being introduced too quickly and without proper management. And while no one ever plans for something like this to happen, it’s an important reminder for all dog owners:

🐾 Dog introductions matter — a lot.
Adult dogs don’t instantly become friends just because they share a space. New dogs should be introduced slowly, neutrally, and over time, with leashes, supervision, and separate spaces at first. Even dogs that are friendly can react unpredictably when overwhelmed, stressed, or rushed.

🐾 Adjustment takes time.
When bringing a new dog into your home, it can take weeks to months for routines, trust, and comfort to fully settle in. Expecting instant harmony puts everyone — dogs included — at risk.

Now Poseidon is facing a large emergency veterinary bill and has no home. We’re doing everything we can to make sure he heals physically and emotionally.

If you’re able to share, or simply keep Poseidon in your thoughts today, we’d appreciate it more than words can say. 💙

Please let this be a gentle reminder: slow introductions save lives — and heartache.

🐾💙

Thank you to everyone who followed his story, sent prayers, and cared about him. Thank you to all of the staff at Tufts who helped him, the staff at Monson Small Animal Clinic and at Vesh. Thank you to Better Together Dog Rescue for taking him on knowing he was not an easy rescue on your budget or hearts. He deserved the world, and we’re heartbroken that his time here was so short.

Run free, Petey. We’ll never forget you. 🐾🕊️

This is a heartbreaking post to write. Last night, we said goodbye to our sweet Petey.

He experienced a medical episode, and we knew it was his time. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his loving foster mom and dad and members of his BTDR family.

We always understood our time with him might be short, but that doesn’t make the loss any easier. Our hearts are shattered wishing we could’ve had more days to love him. We are deeply grateful to Milltown Animal Control and VESH West Springfield, without our collaboration, Petey wouldn’t have known safety, comfort, or love at the end of his journey.

No matter how long a dog is with us, they become part of our family. Petey’s absence is felt by all of us. We’ll honor him by paying it forward, for Petey, and for every dog who came before him.

💙 Run free, sweet boy. 🌈

Fingers crossed 🤞
