ANIMAL ID #: A5680960
ANIMAL NAME: GINGER

Ginger is a three (3) year old, female, black and red, German Shepherd. She was brought to the Palmdale care center after her owner no longer had time for her or her sister.

Per her previous owner, Ginger can be a bit hyper. However, she easily converts this energy into playtime. She quite enjoyed running after the stuffed toys and retrieving tennis balls (though she hasn’t learned how to give them back yet). She knows sit and will happily show you for a tasty treat, for which she takes gently. She enjoys being around people and would benefit from some confidence building.

While at Ginger’s kennel, she was lying at the gate with soft eyes and a neutral tail wag. As the runner opened the gate while holding the leash, she stood up and took a few steps backwards. The runner lightly coaxed her, and she approached with a low head. She relaxed with soft eyes, allowing him to rub her head at which time the leash was easily placed over her head. She walked well, next to the runner, on the way to the catch pen. She shadowed the runner upon entering the pen, seeking affection. As he kneeled to place the collar around her neck, she rolled onto her side. She licked and lightly pawed at the runner playfully, remaining loose as he clasped a collar around her neck. She slowly approached the play yard fence to greet a calm male shepherd. She had soft eyes and a neutral tail until a few others ran up to the fence. Their energy startled her, and she took a few steps back. She entered the yard and was approached by the male shepherd. She had soft eyes and a loose body as she exchanged a good greeting. She remained loose as a female cattle dog came up to her and sniffed her body. She then approached the handlers, seeking affection with a wiggly body, as she went back and forth between the two several times. She was social with all the dogs as she calmly roamed the yard, accepting of the playful dogs as well. She did not display any play style while in the yard but did not object to a few others enticing her to play. She did lightly jump on a handler and mouthed his hand with extremely light pressure while doing so. She remains social and friendly for the rest of her stay in the yard.

Ginger was relaxed with soft eyes and a neutral tail wag as she walked with the handler into a play pen. The handler knelt next to her, and she came up willingly with a loose body to solicit affection. She remained loose as the handler looked into her ears and viewed her teeth. She then approached the handler, leaning into his body for affection. The handler ran his hand down her back and held her tail. She remained loose while as she continued to seek affection. The handler easily lifted each of her paws and held them. She walked back to her kennel without issue. She did not display any negative behavior during the handling assessment.

Ginger can be viewed today at the Palmdale Animal Care Center during the open hours from 11am to 5pm Monday through Saturday.

ANIMAL ID #: A5679174
ANIMAL NAME: PRETZEL

Pretzel is a two (2) year old, spayed female, brown brindle, Dutch Shepherd. She was brought to the Palmdale care center as a stray after being found roaming in Llano with another canine friend.

Pretzel is a such a good dog with gentle dainty behavior. She walks nicely on a leash, excited for the next adventure. She takes treats gently and completely leans in for affection. Her playful spirit is infectious, drawing you in with her sweetness. She enjoys belly rubs, happily flopping over to get the pets whenever she can. She shows a willingness to learn, already mastering the command sit.

While at Pretzel’s kennel, she greeted the runner at the gate with soft eyes and a neutral tail wag, allowing the leash to be placed over her head easily. She walked well, next to the runner, on the way to the catch pen. She was initially tense as she greeted a few dogs through the fence but quickly relaxed, exchanging good greetings with soft eyes and a neutral wag. She was social with the other dogs upon entering the yard, exchanging good greetings with a calm female pit bull and playful male boxer. The boxer enticed her to play, play bowing and pawing at her side. Pretzel was tolerant of the contact but declined his invitation. She spent a few minutes calmly roaming the yard and acclimating. The male boxer enticed play with her again and she responded by play bowing and tapping her feet, but full play did not erupt. She solicited affection from the handlers with a loose body and soft eyes. She then walked back up to the male boxer and tapped her feet. The two lightly chased around the yard and she enjoyed light physical contact as he pawed and lightly jumped on her side. Pretzel was respectful of warnings from other dogs, not interested in any conflict. A female boxer came in and growled at her warning for space. Pretzel respected the warning and backed away, leaving her alone. She remained playful and friendly for the rest of her stay in the yard.

Pretzel can be viewed at the Palmdale Animal Care Center during its open hours of 11am to 5pm Monday through Saturday.
