ā¤ļøšŸ’›šŸ’š Honoring Juneteenth

Today, we pause to reflect, honor, and celebrate freedom, resilience, and unity.

Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States—a powerful reminder of how far we’ve come and the work that still lies ahead.

At East Coast Animal Hospital, we believe in compassion, equity, and community for all. Today, we stand in remembrance and in hope.

In honor of Juneteenth, we celebrate freedom. We celebrate progress. We celebrate people.

ā˜€ļø Beat the Heat: Summer Paw Safety

Hot pavement can burn your pet’s paws in just a few seconds—and they don’t have shoes to protect them!

šŸš¶ā€ā™€ļø Quick test: Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds.
If it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your pet.

Try walking early in the morning or later in the evening, and stick to grass when possible. Your pet’s paws (and body temp) will thank you!

šŸ“‹ Wellness Wednesday: What’s in a Checkup?

A routine wellness exam is more than a quick look—it’s a head-to-tail check that helps us catch issues before they become problems.

Here’s what we look for during a visit:
🩺 Heart & lungs
🦷 Teeth & gums
🐾 Joints & mobility
šŸ‘€ Skin, coat, ears & eyes
āš–ļø Weight & nutrition

These visits help us keep your pet healthy, happy, and thriving—no guesswork needed.

šŸ“ž Ready to schedule your pet’s checkup? Give us a call—we’ll take it from there!

šŸ„• Nutrition Tip Tuesday: Avoid These Treats!

Some of our favorite snacks can be seriously harmful to pets. Even small amounts of certain foods can cause big problems.

🚫 Keep these out of your pet’s reach:
Xylitol (found in sugar-free gum & peanut butter)
Grapes & raisins
Onions & garlic
Chocolate & caffeine

When in doubt, skip the table scraps and stick to pet-safe treats. Your furry friend’s tummy (and liver) will thank you!

šŸ“ž Not sure if something is safe? Give us a call—we’re happy to help.

šŸ’š Mythbuster Monday: Do indoor pets need parasite prevention?

Short answer? Yes—they do!

Fleas, ticks, and mosquitoes can sneak into your home through open doors, windows, or even on your clothes. And once they’re in, they don’t care if your pet lives the couch life. Heartworm, especially, is a risk you don’t want to take.

🦟 Prevention isn’t just for outdoor adventurers—it’s for every pet, every season.

šŸ“ž Not sure what protection your pet needs? Give us a call. We’re happy to help you choose what’s best for your homebody.

🐱 Feline Friday: Why Cats Hide Their Pain

Cats are masters of keeping it together—even when something’s wrong. It’s in their nature to mask discomfort, which makes it easy to miss early signs of illness or injury.

🚩 Watch for these subtle clues:
Hiding more than usual
Changes in grooming habits
Less interest in food or play
Unexplained aggression or clinginess

If something feels off, trust your gut. We’re here to check things out and make sure your cat stays as healthy as they are mysterious.

šŸ“ž Give us a call if you have concerns—we’ll help you figure out what’s going on.
