This is THEO, my 5 year old son. Many of you (and your dogs 😆) may recognize him from tagging along to grooming appointments with me.

As some of you may know by now, I have had to reschedule the majority of the last month’s scheduled grooming appointments as Theo has been sick. He was diagnosed with a neurological disorder called Chiari Malformation. Theo underwent brain surgery on 5/30. We have just returned home after a two week hospitalization.

THANK YOU to all of my clients for being so caring, supportive, and loving to us during this time. THANK YOU for being flexible and understanding when I’ve needed to reschedule. THANK YOU for checking in on us and his progress, for the prayers, well wishes, and to the many that have offered to help any way they could think of. IT TRULY MEANS THE WORLD TO ME ❤️

I am returning back to work this week. I have been working on getting everyone rescheduled. If you have been waiting to hear from me to reschedule your appointment, please text me so I can get you back on the schedule. Looking forward to seeing you all and your pups that I have missed so much 🐾

With summer festivities kicking off, we want to remind you about the symptoms of heatstroke and prevention tips:
Never leave your pet unattended in a car
When hot/humid, keep your pet’s time outdoors limited
Keep your pet hydrated
Ensure your pet has ventilation and a cool environment
Dogs with short noses are at higher risk due to their condensed facial anatomy and restricted ability to cool themselves
If any signs of heat stroke appear, please contact our team immediately.
Please help us spread awareness by tagging your pet parent friends in the comments and by sharing this post!

Keep an eye on your pets this summer! It's heating up here in Palm Beach County so we are going to be sharing some tips on making sure that your pets are safe in the heat! 🐶🐱☀️🌡

Heat stroke can cause life-threatening organ damage if your pet is unable to cool off. If your pet is experiencing symptoms of heat stroke such as excessive panting and drooling, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, vomiting, lethargy, loss of consciousness, seizures, muscle tremors, dizziness, or disorientation then contact your veterinarian promptly.

As the temperature climbs throughout the season, make sure your pets stay hydrated with cool, clean water, have access to shade or A/C after exercising, and if they do start to overheat, pour cool water over their head, stomach, and arm pits.

Remember: In Palm Beach County, it is unlawful to leave your dog outdoors without access to fresh water and adequate shelter from the heat and rain. Unattended tethering is prohibited, as well as leaving animals in unattended vehicles.

❗❗ Public Service Announcement ❗❗

It is extremely important that we share this message today to the community even though it might be emotionally difficult for some to read.

Lately, we’ve been experiencing very heart-wrenching medical cases here at the shelter brought in by Martin County Sheriff's Office's Animal Services. Animals are being tied up outside in the heat, left in backyards without water, etc.

Some of these situations are accidental while others are just neglectful. Our staff members and medical team are distraught by the cases we have seen lately, some of which are too far gone to save. Please read the safety tips below and spread the word, so that we can make sure the animals in our community are well cared for and safe from the heat of the season.

▶️ Dogs with short snouts, such as pugs and bulldogs, are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses due to their shortened airways, so they should be monitored extra closely.
▶️ Watch for signs of overheating such as: excessive panting, lethargy, purple tongue, vomiting, and drooling.
▶️ We highly recommend that your domesticated pets live indoors. However, for community cats, ensure they have easy access to shaded places, like under a deck or porch, to rest and eat.
▶️ If you have a domesticated rabbit or guinea pig, it's best to always keep them indoors, as they are particularly vulnerable to heat-related issues.
▶️ Avoid housing pets in an unairconditioned garage, as the lack of air circulation can quickly lead to heat exhaustion.
▶️ If you found a lost pet within Martin County, please call us at 772-223-8822 so we can provide assistance and medical care if necessary. There’s never a “good” time for a lost animal, but the warmer seasons are definitely the most dangerous time for those pets.
▶️ Limit backyard and outdoor exercise on particularly hot days and explore ways to keep them occupied within the home, such as using Kongs or puzzle toys.
▶️ Make sure that animals have free access to water at ALL times.

Thank you for helping keep our community pets safe. Please share!
