Happy 5th birthday Blu, the one who started it all šŸ’™

When I got you, I had no idea how much you were about to change my life. You tested me, humbled me, and forced me to step up.

This past year with you has been quite the adventure. We bought a house. We grew the business. We started board and trains. And then we almost lost you to bloat. Watching you fight through that and seeing you fully recovered now, running around like nothing ever happened is something I’ll never take for granted. You love with everything in you and you play even harder.

Thank you for fighting so hard to stay by my side. You’ll always be my feisty sidekick, my business partner, and also my medical miracle. You’re the reason I get to help other dogs and their owners every day.

Five years down and a lot more to go. I love you even more than you love pup cups and your favorite blue ball. šŸ’™

I’ve been so excited to announce this…

Salty Paws Dog Training was chosen as Florida Panthers Small Business of the Month and I’m honestly just so honored and grateful. This is such an amazing privilege to me.

If you’ve ever watched my stories, you already know that every single dog in training is on ā€œplaceā€ watching hockey with me.
We don’t miss games in this house. Every dog has basically become a Cats fan whether they signed up for it or not.

This business started as a dream and turned into my whole life. Long days, late nights, training sessions, setbacks, wins, and everything in between… it’s all been worth it. I love what I do and In the end, it’s all about helping dogs and giving them and their owners the best lives together.

I’ll be at the home games all February, and I’m excited to meet you guys, talk hockey, talk dogs, and show Panthers fans how you can cheer on the Cats while having a well-trained dog at home.

Thank you to everyone who’s supported me, trusted me with their dogs, shared my stuff, and believed in Salty Paws. The people and dogs behind Salty Paws are my MVP’s.

Let’s go Cats. Let’s go Salty Paws.
See you at the games!

Today marks 3 months since Blu came out of emergency bloat surgery šŸ¤
She’s fully back to herself, happy, strong, and thriving. And while she’s moved on like nothing ever happened, I’d be lying if I said I don’t still think about what she went through.

What saved Blu’s life was awareness. I’ve always been very educated on the signs and symptoms of bloat, and I’m incredibly in tune with her. The moment something felt off, I knew she was in trouble.

In Blu’s case, it wasn’t food-related. We had just gotten home, she drank water, jumped onto the couch and within 10 minutes, the signs were obvious.
She wasn’t breathing normally, was trying to vomit but couldn’t, and was unable to lay down.
She was at the emergency hospital within 20 minutes, and the vet told us it was caught incredibly fast.

Some dogs show subtle signs that progress over time. Others like Blu decline rapidly. There is no ā€œwait and seeā€ with bloat.

I’ve taken every precaution with her, including attempting a preventative gastropexy when she was a puppy, but complications made that impossible. Even with all the knowledge and preparation, bloat can still happen which is why education and speed matter so much.

If you have a deep-chested dog, please:
• Learn the signs of bloat
• Know how to reduce risk where possible
• Always have a plan for where you’ll go in an emergency

And if you are ever questioning whether you should go to the emergency vet—the answer is always yes.

If sharing Blu’s story helps save even one dog, it’s worth telling every time.

Happy Halloween from Salty Paws!
Just a little reminder to keep your pups safe and comfortable tonight:
• Give your dog a good walk or training session before the night starts — a tired mind and body make it much easier for them to stay calm later on.
• Keep candy (especially chocolate + xylitol) far out of reach
• Make sure your dog is secure before opening the door for trick-or-treaters
• Utilize the place command — it helps your dog stay calm and lets you safely open the door without the chaos

Have fun out there and give your dogs some extra love tonight

This is why I’ll always say training is essential, not optional.

Blu recently went through emergency, life-saving surgery
What truly kept her safe and calm through it all wasn’t just medicine, it was her training.

Because of her foundation, she could:
- Stay confident on a scale & exam table, even while scared
- Hold a solid down instead of panicking with her IV
- Relax in her crate when needed (no stress, no drama)
- Rest calmly on place at home
- Walk in control on leash with fresh stitches
- Enjoy enrichment toys instead of inventing a living room obstacle course

These aren’t just ā€œnice manners.ā€ In an emergency, they became critical skills.

Training gave Blu freedom, safety, and trust when she needed it most. And honestly… that’s the goal for every dog. šŸ’™

Blu’s review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
ā€œTraining… highly recommend. Would survive again.ā€
