I have been given some new responsibilities at work. Dealing with emergency operations as part of a team. With hurricane season in full swing is everyone prepared? What are some of your go to things you pack if you need to leave. What do you make sure you have on hand if you are staying home?

Long post
Recently Joey Sydow and I started our search for a petsitter. Since closing down Dawg Tired and going back to work with the sheriff's office after PCSing we have tried a few local boarding business. We were so happy when our new vets office began boarding dogs and for 2 years we trusted them with our pets but last year Dirks eye sight worsened and boarding him was no longer an option. He became very stressed when boarded and worried himself in stress colitis.
We put out a plea for a new petsitter and found who we thought we be a great match for us. We asked all the questions ( yall know them) she set her own hours to arrive and leave 5 pm until 8 am we agreed. Our first time using her was mid April. We had a good weekend but we did notice she changed her hours by an hour on both arrival and departure but I decided not to say anything. I will regret my decision because at that point she knew she could get away with not taking proper care of our pets. After that we used her 2 more times and each time she was hours late arriving and would leave an hour early every morning. The last time was over the Juky 4th weekend. On the night of the 3rd she informed me she wouldn't arrive until 10ish pm on the 4th cause she was going to the park to watch fireworks. 🤯🤬. That means my dogs would be crated from 7 am until 10 ish pm and she didn't see a problem with that. At that point we spoke over the phone and I let her know how unhappy I was. This left me in a very venerable position. I was 7 hours away and was currently in an argument with the person I trusted to care for my pets. Fast forward she showed up on time and left at the right time begging me not to let her go but also failing to apologize for not showing up on time and never once taking accountability. Even trying to gaslight me but I had the receipts all the texts as proof. The following day with the help of family and friends my pets were checked on until we could get home. Here's the kicker. When she left that last morning. 2 of our cats had some how escaped. Imagine my shock when our friend pulled up and Chappy was running around outside. When i texted her that full payment had been sent to her venmo I also let her know that 2 cats had been let out and 1 was still missing. Her response was oh wow. No apologies! We have to stop th8s cycle of petsittets neglecting our pets. We have to set high standards and hold people accountable.
