It is with great excitement that we acknowledge our Darley nominations for the 2023 racing season.

RS JEWEL CROWN our home bred the leading four-year-old filly in earnings.

RB TEXAS HOLD ‘Em leading older horse in earnings.

AA TAKE A CHANCE third in earnings as four year old c**t or gelding.

We are ranked a very close second in earnings as OWNERS.

As well as second in earnings as TRAINER.

I am thankful to my whole team and all
the connections.

Furthermore, we wish to express our gratitude to each and every one of those great horses.

With the victory by AA Take A Chance on Sunday at Sam Houston Race Park (📸 Coady Photography), trainer Nicole Ruggeri has now won six of the nine races in which she has saddled horses in 2023. The winners—who are also owned by Nicole, along with her husband, Andre—are AA Take a Chance (2x), RS Jewel Crown (2x), AA Sweet Victory, and RB Texas Hold Em. 💪

Man o' War was known for being a sour horse, inheriting his dam's high-strung temperament and his sire's fiery disposition.

During his retirement at Faraway Farm, Man o' War befriended his groom, Will Harbut. Will and "Big Red" were opposites. Will's melodic voice and calm demeanor helped sooth the horse. Every day, Will Harbut would feed, water, hand walk, and groom Big Red. He mucked out his stall and bathed him when the horse needed it. When it was time for Man o' War to fulfill his studly duties and make the trip to the breeding shed, it would be Will Harbut whom would walk him there and back. The two spent all day with each other. Will was the first and the last person Man o' War saw every day.

When Will Harbut died in 1947, Man o' War was distraught. The horse began to fade, stopped eating, riddled with sadness. He passed away less than one month after his groom, listed as an apparent heart attack. Perhaps his heart was so broken that he could no longer stand to be alive without his best friend.

Big Thanks to my team

Big Purity stretched her speed to one mile and held off 2020 Darley Award Champion 3-Year-Old Filly Uptown Lady Arabella in an exciting stretch drive to win the Emirates Breeders VIP Distaff at Bally's Arapahoe Park on Wednesday. John Jude was aboard the 5-year-old grey mare for trainer Nicole Ruggeri. Big Purity’s sire, So Big Is Better, and Uptown Lady Arabella’s dam, DC Willeys Song, were former stakes winners at Arapahoe Park, as was the sire of third-place finisher Aura Makarina, Sammy V. So, the Emirates Breeders VIP Distaff got to showcase the next generation of Arabians in Colorado. Photo by Coady Photography.
