I was really hoping to be able to record this in a more controlled environment, but apparently the males are done. This was a bucket list species for me, and I took a 4.5 hour drive EIGHT TIMES over the course of the last few months before finally finding them. And I do have some tadpoles from the females that laid eggs on the way home. These are definitely one of the top of the list cutest sounding frogs out there.

For those that dont know what theyre watching, allow me to introduce you to Hyla avivoca, or the Bird Voiced Treefrog! (Also the frog that is currently the banner on my page)

A special shoutout to Manfred Dolkemeyer because had he not requested this species from me, I would have never even known of their existence... we will now be breeding them so many others can enjoy both their beauty and call from quality animals bred in captivity!

Ladies and Gentlemen, Frog lovers beware, cuteness overload!

This is our largest CB Barking Treefrog baby! He (she?) Is growing like a w**d! We have about a dozen or so not TOO far behind. For those already on the waiting list, we are almost ready to start reaching out. For those not on the waiting list yet, I recommend doing so because we will likely run out of babies long before the list ends, even with 4 separate spawns growing currently! I LOVE that he doesn't "turn his spots off" ever. The others stay in "green mode" most of the time

Okay everyone, its been a little while, but here's today's "Sounds of the Frog World".

This cute little fella is a Copes Gray Treefrog, Hyla chrysoscelis.

Virtually identical to the Gray Treefrog, Hyla versicolor. The only ways to really distinguish the 2 are by the coloration on the inside thighs and by the males call.

Hopefully I will have some H. versicolor soon so I can share a video of their call, which is actually extremely adorable if we are being honest!

This video is not as "perfect" as I would like, but its a rather challenging task to film a male calling while also trying to keep 4 others from escaping out of the open door 🤦

Did a quick cleaning last night. Spraying everything down brought everyone out of their hiding spots. I know it doesnt seem like it, but had I not just sprayed everything down, this enclosure appears almost empty as the Barking Treefrogs hide within and under all of the leaves amazingly well!

The wonderful rainbow of toadlets. These are Red-lineage F¹ Southern Toad for this specific grouping. There are a few other reds in the group, but none hold a candle to that little 🍅. The color sadly doesnt show as good in this photo. In person, its nuclear red.... looks like we have another holdback 🤦🤣

Also, for those thinking of getting into breeding toads, please note that these guys are scaling a completely clean, smooth, vertical wall of a sterilite container... people always think im exaggerating when I talk about needing a secure enclosure for toadlets. Heres the proof!

Nature is awesome. The size differences in a single spawn are unmistakable. This spawn is from several different pairs, but all laid in the same rain chamber at the same time.

Do you think the larger ones happen to be from a different parent that happens to have faster development time? Or perhaps larger genes? Or do you think its a natural mix? Maybe to ensure all dont morph at the same time, therefore ensuring they aren't all at the waters edge hunting for the same size prey at the exact same size?

In my experience, spawns from the same parents grow at this staggered rate. I believe its part of evolution to help survival rates.

Im checking other states laws as well, but so far Texas is the only one logical about the s**t.

Should be very easy species to find. Just dont have them by me and id like to get the captive breeding going for them.

(Baby Barking Treefrog for attention because otherwise, who would read this post?... no, thats not the species I am looking for!)

Just a quick tadpole tour. I will be doing some species specific underwater videos this weekend.

This is just our current tadpole collection, at one of our facilities. I didnt film any of the hundreds of toadlets or froglets. Its also just begun. We should have 10 or 15 more species in the water by the end of July.

Well, its safe to say we have successfully spawned North American Green Toads (or Western Green Toad) Anaxyrus debilis.

This is from a single group spawning. All laid within the same 24 hours. One of the cool things about this species is their rapid tadpole growth. These little guys will be fully morphed toadlets within the next 2 to 4 weeks. Its an adaptation to surviving in dry arid environments where rain puddles dont tend to last very long

You can see the growth rate between the ones that hatched out first and those that hatched out towards the end of the 24 hour range
