It was an exciting week for us!
After last week's work of removing the old footing and leveling the base, this week we had new footing brought in.

We also converted a tack stall into an arena equipment storage room so that we'll have more riding space instead of having stuff gathered in the corners.

The arena already looks so much lighter and larger. We originally planned to replace all the OSB at this time too, but with current lumber prices we'd have had to sell a couple of horse kidneys on the black market... so we decided to wait till prices go back down.

Yesterday, the fabulous Alyssa Moran had the first ride in the new footing on her horse Peep. Peep loved the footing so much she even kissed it afterwards 😉. Alyssa was the barn manager when we bought the stables and to say we wouldn't have survived our first couple of years here without her here is an understatement. So when we knew we were moving forward with replacing the footing I knew that she had to be the first person to ride on it.

Now on to planning our next project!!!! 💪

Things are continuing quietly at Derbyshire stables.

I made this bench to brighten the entrance to the main barn 🤠

And here's an after video!
We had the area excavated, graded, new underground drainage put in and new gutters installed.
Not a glamorous project, but well worth the 💵

Here's a before video of the gutter and side of the main barn. You can clearly see that the rain from the roof was not going into the gutters and instead was pooling on the ground.
In the past stalls had flooded every year. Our work on the stall floors has stopped the flooding, but we needed to do the work on the gutters and drainage to really solve the problem.
