Beat the heat! Lesson early morning and later evening offered for the summer. Covered arena with lights 🌟

The mares had the right idea this morning, gathering at the trough during fill-up like a little summer council. 🥵🐴

Texas wasted no time turning the heat all the way up, already planning our lives around shade, water, and whatever breeze the day is willing to give us.

At Austin Saddle Club, we’re shifting with the season and offering early morning lessons and later evening lessons to help our riders and horses beat the worst of the heat. Our lighted covered arena makes those cooler hours not only possible, but a whole lot more bearable.

Summer riding in Texas is a dance with the sun and we’re doing our best to keep it safe, productive, and kind to both human and horse . 🌿☀️

How awesome!

ATTENTION ALL WESTERN DRESSAGE RIDERS!!!!!

After much discussion, the NDPC has decided to offer year-end-awards for western dressage riders IN CANADA for this competition season as a trial run before rolling it out in the U.S. NEXT YEAR. We will not be separating ponies and small horses. All animals must be no more than 163cm with shoes and 162cm barefoot. If we don't have a measurement already, both ponies and small horses can be measured by a vet using our small horse measurement form. Ponies measured this way can ONLY use these measurements for NDPC Western Dressage Year-End-Awards. Horses over the height requirement are not eligible for these awards. Western dressage memberships will be separate from classical dressage memberships. If you do both, you will need a full price membership for each.

Why do riders choose Western Dressage?

Because it’s about more than just competition. It’s about building trust, communication, and harmony with your horse. The Western Dressage Association of America is proud to support riders at every level on that journey.

What do you love most about western dressage?

Those who are seriously interested in dressage, if they don’t already know all the letters AND the distances between them, will study this until they know it.

Those who are not seriously interested in dressage won’t.

That alone will separate the legitimate ones from those who talk a good game, but whose actions don’t match up.

This knowledge of the basics, in the sport of dressage, is like whether or not a jumping rider knows the distances in combinations. If someone professes an interest, but is not willing to learn the fundamental building blocks, the person is basically a fake. I don’t think this is harsh, merely reality.

It isn’t hard to learn this, but it requires some discipline and seriousness of purpose. No excuses---none.

It really is that simple.
