As we enter a second day of poor air quality we wanted to remind everyone of ways to keep your horses as safe as possible in these conditions:

-Reducing activity level as much as possible
-Providing plenty of fresh water
-Consider wetting hay to decrease additional particulate matter
-Keeping air moving through barns with fans

Some good tips to tackle the upcoming air quality concerns!

πŸ”₯ Wildfire Smoke & Horse Health πŸ΄πŸ’¨

As wildfire season heats up, so does the risk of poor air quality β€” not just for us, but for our horses too. Smoke from wildfires can irritate a horse's respiratory system and cause fatigue, coughing, difficulty breathing, etc.

You can monitor air quality at www.airnow.gov. During periods of poor air quality, you can protect your horse by:
🐎 Limiting exercise
πŸ’§ Providing fresh water
πŸ’¦ Controlling dust such as watering dry lots and soaking or feeding dust-free hay
πŸ•° Allowing time for recovery: airway damage from wildfire smoke takes 4 to 6 weeks to heal after air quality returns to normal.

We are excited to announce that we will now start offering Veterinary Medical Manipulation. Dr. Ashley Alberts has been studying over the past few months at the Chi University in Reddick, FL and is now certified in veterinary medical manipulation.

Veterinary medical manipulation is chiropractic work, but for animals. Medical manipulation is the use of motion palpation to identify restrictions of joints then correcting them with specific adjustments. This helps the horse by keeping the joints moving well, reducing pain and tension and increasing mobility.

If you think your horse could benefit from medical manipulation please call the office to schedule an appointment!
