🐾 Secret Mission Complete: The SPARKY Yorkie Squad Finds Their Forever Homes! 🐾

Back at the beginning of July, our friends at SPARKY reached out with a bit of an urgent request: they had five Yorkies in their care who were in desperate need of some serious magic. Without hesitation, we said absolutely!

In rolled two adult boys, a sweet girl, and two adorable Yorkie puppies. To put it gently, they were a hot mess—matted, scruffy, rambunctious, and overflowing with energy, but just looking for hugs and a little relief.

Because they arrived needing full transformations to get adoption-ready, we kept this rescue mission under wraps. We didn’t want to post about them right away and accidentally inundate SPARKY with calls and adoption requests before these little guys were actually ready for the spotlight.

So, our team rolled up our sleeves, worked our groom-room magic, and helped trade those heavy, tangled mats for clean coats and wagging tails.

🏡 The Best Update Ever

We are beyond thrilled to share the good news: all five of these sweet Yorkies have officially found new homes or have special arrangements already underway!

Even better? One of our very own neighbors adopted one of the little boys! He is now all settled in, living his best life just down the road, which means we even get to wave and catch a peek of him when we walk down to check the mail. Talk about a happy ending (and beginning)!

We are deeply grateful that local rescues like SPARKY trust us to step in and help out when pups need a glow-up. It is always an honor, and we are so happy to do our part for the animals in our community.

✨ Wednesday Double Shelter Glow-Up: Lady & Coco! ✨

Double the pampering, double the love! Last Wednesday we had the absolute pleasure of hosting a sweet duo from SPARKY for a total glow-up day. These two came in together, and watching them shine after their baths and grooms was the highlight of our week!

Meet Lady and Coco, two wonderful pups with very different personalities who are both looking for their forever families.

🐾 Lady: The Sweetest Doodle Around

First up is Lady, a gorgeous Doodle who is the definition of a total gentle soul. She handled her spa day like an absolute pro!

Personality: Sweet, calm, and overall an all-around amazing girl.

Vibe: She’s the kind of dog who just wants to lean in for hugs and spread quiet joy wherever she goes.

Glow-Up Result: Soft, fluffy, and looking like a fresh, cuddly teddy bear!

🐾 Coco: The Big Personality Yorkie Mix

Next is Coco, Lady’s charming sibling! Coco is a fun-sized Yorkie mix who brings a lot of fun character to the table.

Personality: Full of personality! He can be a little cautious at first, but once he realizes he’s safe, his loving side shines right through.

Vibe: A loyal little guy who warms up quickly as he learns to trust you.

Glow-Up Result: Clean, dapper, and holding his head high with that newly groomed confidence!

"Gone to the Dogs", returns on Sunday, August 2, from 6:00–8:00 p.m.

Bring your pup for an evening of swimming, wagging tails, and plenty of fun before the pool closes for the season.
Admission: $10 per dog (owner gets in FREE!)

Owensboro Parks and Recreation Department is providing:
• Dog contests
• Giveaways and prizes

ITV- Will be there to provide information about fostering and adoptions. We will also have a Merch table. All proceeds will benefit It Takes A Village.

If you're able, bring a small bag of dry dog food to help support.

WE ARE HIRING AT PAWS AN🐾 WE ARE HIRING AT PAWS AND CLAWS! 🐾

With the back-to-school season approaching, we are looking for high-energy dog lovers to join our pack! We have two positions open for go-getters who love pups of all shapes and sizes. Some options are full time and others part time.

🧼 Dog Bathers (Part-time Openings):

Hours: Weekdays, starting at 7:00 AM until the dogs are done (approx. 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM).

The Job: Splish-splashing, blow-drying, brushing, nail trimming, teeth brushing and keeping our furry clients looking and smelling amazing! There is also cleaning involved in this job to maintain the bathing area and kennels.

🏡 Kennel Assistants (Flexible Schedule):

Hours: Shifts/days vary (we operate 7 days a week). Weekend and holiday availability is required.

The Job: Feeding, playtime supervision, and keeping our boarding and play areas safe and spotless.

⚠️ Fair warning: Pups can be messy! Cleaning and maintaining a sanitary environment is a major part of both roles. If you have a weak stomach to dog messes and cleaning them up, these roles aren't for you!

Sometimes we post a little bit later after we’ve had a dog from the shelter on Wednesdays…

Sometimes it’s because the dog may not be ready for adoption and we don’t want to have a flurry of requests hitting the shelter…

But then other times it’s just that we need a couple days to process.

Alfie was one of those dogs we needed a couple days to process for many reasons. We are dog lovers here and many know about us being doodle lovers.

Doodles are dogs that need to be brushed and regularly groomed. Yes - there are some who can go longer periods of time but Alfie is not one of them.

Alfie is so full of love - he is patient and loving. He is one of the millions of dogs who deserve a home. It’s one of those circumstances where you just can’t believe that this special of a dog could be left in this type of situation. A dog who needs a massive amount of help. The matting on Alfie was down to the skin and left very little left. Some might wonder “Why would you shave him?” or think that there was any other alternative. But there was not. Alfie was at the point where the matting is so tight and heavy that it was impacting his well-being and his spirit. We spent many hours working with Alfie and as every hour passed he started to show more of his personality as his pelted hair was removed. As the dirty, matted hair was removed it revealed a bright, white coat underneath. This coat will grow and in 2 weeks be fuller and continue to fill out.

We do this complimentary for our local shelters. Some grooms take a few hours and others take many (many) more. It is rewarding to us that we can do this small thing and make a difference for them their future family.

Whenever a dog comes in for a needed groom from one of our local shelters, I say a short prayer with them at the end of the service. Then I tell them that they’re a good dog. That I know that they’re going to find a good home. I tell them that I hope it happens fast because they deserve it. Then I give them a hug and put their bandana on. They are so proud to wear their bandana and their personality starts to beam. They leave here feeling better and having hope that they will find their forever home soon. ❤️🐾❤️
