Today we will talk about how we do things.
We use a process called maceration. It is allowing bacteria to form in warm water over the course of a few days and allow the flesh and meat to come free of the bones (decompose)
Once clean we then go through degreasing cycle (the longest part of the whole process) this could take months to fully degrease a skull. This is a mixture of ammonia and water that the skull sits in and gets changed as needed until there is no more visible grease coming to the surface.
Now you might ask why not just boil? Why even bother with degreasing? Well let me tell you…
Boiling actually damages the bone, making it brittle and can actually push grease further into the bones.
Degreasing, let’s talk on that. You ever see euro mount hanging up that’s beginning to turn yellow in spots? That’s grease coming back through.
So our process may cost $25 more than a boilers price, it may take a lot longer than their quick 24 hour turn around time. But I can promise you a better quality skull. I don’t want this as an attack on anyone who boils or simmers skulls, it’s exactly how I started out until I found better ways to do things. And if anyone is interested in more info about things get ahold of me, there is an awesome group right here on Facebook that will teach you anything you want to know!
