Oswego City Animal Shelter

Oswego City Animal Shelter We are a municipal Shelter and Animal Control office. We serve the City of Oswego. We are not affiliated with the Oswego County Humane Society, or the SPCA.

We are Animal Control/law enforcement for the City of Oswego. To adopt a pet you must fill out an adoption application to be approved by our staff. There is a 24-48 hour wait on all adoptions to give us a chance to review your application and give you a chance to think about the commitment of owning a pet. (Some waits may be longer.) Once approved, an appointment will be made for meet and greets.

Adopted pets may not be given as gifts, outside of the household. Adoption fee for dogs = $200 cash/check *Licensing fee may also apply. Adoption fee for cats = $100 cash/check
ALL pets come vaccinated, altered (spay/neuter), microchipped, defleaed/dewormed. Our cat wing may be visited during open Shelter hours, normally 12-4pm Mon.-Fri. We DO NOT have a walk through dog kennel due to public safety reasons. Adoptable dogs will be brought out to meet you with application approval and upon appointment time. The Shelter is closed on holidays and weekends. Appointments for those with approved applications may be specially made on weekends. Please direct any questions regarding applications to the staff by calling the shelter. We do not have access to applications from our page. Thanks! Hanna and Willa should be spending their days chasing toys, taking naps in sunny windows, and growing up in a home. Instead, they're growing up in a kennel.

They're still so young, so full of life, and so ready to love. They both do great with other dogs and cats. They don't understand why they're still here, watching other animals come and go while they continue to wait. Every day they hope someone will finally choose them.

Their favorite volunteer reminds them what love feels like and what it should feel like every day—a gentle touch, kind words, and someone who is happy to see them. But when the visit ends, they're still waiting for a family to call their own. 💔🐾

Many thanks to Brandon’s Pub and Grille for holding another golf tournament to benefit the Oswego Animal Shelter today! Despite the morning rain, it ended up being the perfect day today at Stone Creek. Thank you for inviting us to say a few words at the start of the tournament, and thank you for all your support! Hi all, Chris here to advocate for one of our awesome doggos! Asher is the last of a group of dogs taken from a large cruelty case by the SPCA this year. Asher came to us on the thin side and filthy. Like fur crusty and greasy with who knows what. Asher has been nothing short of perfect since arriving and has had no applications. We just don't understand why, so off he came to my house to gather more intel for you all. This handsome Dutch Shepherd rode like a dream in the car, sitting snoot up, sniffing all the smells through open windows. Once arrived at my home my husband brought out my Shepherd girl to meet him. They did great! We had playtime in the backyard where they ran, playbowed, chewed toys, and wriggled in the grass. We had dinner and chilled out for the evening in which Asher rested along side me with his head on my lap. Asher was nervous of my husband, but he was also that way when he first arrived at the shelter. He allowed him to pet him and take him out to potty but was just wary. That got much better after the use of treats and some time. Asher fell asleep with a big sigh, slept butted up against me in bed, and didn't move all night. LOL We went for an early morning walk and he walks like a dream! He loved sniffing and trotting along side me. Even encountered our neighborhood fox and deer with no care. Asher is an amazing dog with a funny personality, he's housebroken, respectful, and happily goes along with what his people want to do. He is very affectionate and snuggly. Loves to play fetch and chew bones. He is a bit nervous of strangers, mostly men, but doesn't lash out, just avoids. He was wary of some household noises as well, I assume because he just wasn't exposed much to these things. Like the gurgling coffee pot, the toilet flushing, the vacuum...but what dog loves the vacuum really? LOL He overcame them quickly. For a Shepherd he is pretty chill and would be happy with a daily walk and some fetch time. He mostly just enjoys being with his peeps. He does well with other dogs and avoided our shelter cats. He doesn't seem overly prey driven with our squirrels and chipmunks. A more perfect gentleman you won't find! He is already neutered and ready to go. 4-5years old. And the most brilliant brindle color. He was good for a bath and brushing, as well. Does well in a crate. Please take a gander at my buddy, Asher! He deserves a loving home after the crummy life he's had previously! Applications can be submitted using the link in the first post pinned to the top of our page. Let's get his Ash outta here! ;) See the comments for a video!

✨🐾FRIDAY IS FOR FERNANDO🐾✨
Fernando is the LAST of his litter to remain at the shelter. He’s had to watch person after person come through, walk by, and walk out with not just some, but all of his family. He’s been with us since August (his entire life!) and is currently one of our 3 longest residents! We don’t understand how!
He would be great in a home with cats, or dogs, or even both. He is full of energy, and quite the comedian. He loves to snuggle, he loves his food, so I mean, he is basically perfect!
Let’s make this Friday for him and let our boy venture out of the same four walls and see what life is really about!
Applications can be submitted via the link at the top of our profile, or in person at the shelter. ❤️

Meet Grandma Aggie! She is a super senior at 12+ years and just had a toe amputated due to a growth beneath it. This poor girl in her cone and cast is breaking our hearts with her motorboat purring and sweet attitude. With slow introduction, she can get along with mellow small dogs and cats. Applications can be submitted using the link in the first post pinned to the top of our page.
