IMPORTANT UPDATE: More Ridglan Farms beagles are getting their chance at freedom!

Ridglan Farms, a breeding facility in Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, has agreed to release 135 additional beagles.

Dane County Humane Society and our partners, Beagle Freedom Project, Center for a Humane Economy, Wisconsin Puppy Mill Project, Inc, and Wisconsin Federated Humane Societies, will coordinate the care and placement of 68 of these dogs. Big Dog Ranch Rescue will care for the other 67.

Just like last month, DCHS will serve as a staging area where these beagles will receive veterinary exams, vaccinations, microchips, and any immediate medical care before being transferred to partner shelters and rescues. About 10 dogs are expected to remain at DCHS for additional medical treatment and behavioral support before adoption.

While this group is smaller than the last release, these dogs still need your support.

Donate to help provide medical care and shelter: https://donor.giveshelter.org/page/Beagles

Adopt a currently available DCHS animal to help free up resources for incoming beagles and other animals in need: www.giveshelter.org/adopt

A reminder: the beagles will not be available for public viewing. When DCHS dogs are ready for adoption, we will contact potential adopters from the more than 1,700 responses already received through our interest form.

Please do not call, email, or visit to inquire about the beagles so our staff can focus on their care. We will share updates through our website and social media as they become available.

Thank you for continuing to support these dogs and the many other animals who rely on DCHS every day.

Loki has been getting more time to explore with the cats downstairs. Today he got all the toys out of the bin.
The big thing we're going to try to work on is getting him to not chase the cats, but so far I'd say a home with no cats would be best.
We found out he does great with kids yesterday. He didn't react at all when the neighbor kids rode around us on their bikes and peddle tractors. All he cared about was getting up on their laps and getting picked up.

Stout/Novella has been getting more chances at freedom and has been getting along great with Zeros. During the work day the 2 of them now have run of the basement with Jes.
There are still 2 things we need to figure out before he gets run of the house: introductions with Sarge (not worried about it going bad, just haven't done it), and how to handle his medical issue. As is common with tail amputations, he has lost some control of his bowels. He can still use the litter box fine but doesn't always feel the pressure and will leave nuggets around on accident. There is a chance it can get better over time but there is no guarantee it will. He's a happy, loving little guy who will live a normal life otherwise.
