As we are approaching Thanksgiving here is a great reminder to keep your pets safe during the holidays!!

๐Ÿ˜ป Play is great enrichment for cats, so weโ€™re bringing back these lovely illustrations by Lili Chin from our 2022 International Cat Day campaign!

There are many different ways cats can play, so take note of what your cat likes to do. ๐Ÿชถ A wand toy is a good place to start โ€“ try wiggling it in short bursts along the floor or swooping it slowly through the air above them.

๐Ÿ”” Give yourself a reminder to play with your cat for 5 minutes each day and you will also see how much it improves your bond with them.

Today is , a reminder that knowing how to save a lifeโ€”especially our furry friendsโ€”can make all the difference. While having to administer CPR to your pet can be terrifying, being prepared can help you act calmly and confidently in an emergency.

Stay Calm:
1๏ธโƒฃ Breathe: Take a few deep breaths to steady yourself. Focus on the feeling of the air filling your lungs.
2๏ธโƒฃ Delegate: If there are bystanders, assign them tasks like finding the nearest emergency vet.
3๏ธโƒฃ Focus: Keep your mind clear. Concentrate on the steps ahead and stay in the moment.

When to Start CPR:
๐Ÿพ Your pet isnโ€™t responding
๐Ÿพ Your pet isnโ€™t breathing
๐Ÿพ You canโ€™t feel a heartbeat or pulse

How to Perform CPR:
Compressions:
โค๏ธ Position your pet on their side.
โค๏ธ Deliver 120 compressions per minute (2 per second).
โค๏ธ For every 30 compressions, give 2 breaths.

Breaths:
โค๏ธ Close your petโ€™s mouth and seal it with your fingers.
โค๏ธ Cover their nose with your mouth and give 2 breathsโ€”enough to make their chest rise.
โค๏ธ Check for a heartbeat after 2 minutes. If thereโ€™s no pulse, continue.

When to Stop CPR:
๐Ÿพ Your pet starts breathing and responding
๐Ÿพ You reach the vet clinic and they take over
๐Ÿพ You canโ€™t continue physically
๐Ÿพ Your pet starts breathing but is still unconscious

Recovery Position:
Place your petโ€™s head to the side, slightly tilting down (unless thereโ€™s head trauma).

Compression Techniques:
๐Ÿถ Medium to Large Dogs: Compress one third of the chest depth.
๐Ÿฑ Small Dogs/Cats: Use your thumb and fingers for compression, or compress directly over the heart.

Stay prepared and know that you can make a difference in your pet's life! โค๏ธ
