Celebrating the team members who make VWP a great place for pets and people.
This week: April

April joined our team in October 2023, bringing with her over 17 years of experience working with animals. Raised in the Dallas area, April began her career on a dairy farm in North Dakota, where her passion for animal care truly took root. She transitioned from livestock to companion animal care, where she has continued to grow her career in the veterinary field.
As Practice Manager, April is dedicated to supporting both the medical team and our clients to ensure every patient receives exceptional care. One of her favorite parts of the job is helping cats feel more comfortable during their visits—especially by offering Churu treats to turn a potentially stressful experience into a positive one. Cats are her favorite species, and she has a special place in her heart for feline patients.
April has two black-and-white cats, Moo and Elsie, inspired by her large animal roots, who keep her entertained. In her free time, she and her husband enjoy exploring the outdoors or relaxing at Lake Erie.

This time of year, we receive questions concerning fawns and other native wildlife that appear to be abandoned. Because of this, we wanted to share some tips on what to do if you ever find a wild animal that is in need.

Observe the animal from a distance and assess the situation.

Do NOT touch or pick up the animal, give it food or water, try to care for it yourself, or move it unless it is in immediate danger.

Do NOT bring them to the clinic. Veterinary clinics are not legally permitted to treat or provide care for native wild animals.

If you are unsure of the situation, call a wildlife rehabilitator for guidance.

This week: Barb!

Barb is a dedicated member of the team who has been caring for pets and supporting the practice for six years. Her favorite part of the job is meeting new pets and their owners, and building meaningful connections with them each day. Her passion for animals began early in life, growing up surrounded by them and appreciating their honest, innocent nature. At home, Barb’s life is just as full, with nine pets—making it feel like a zoo—and plenty of time spent with her children and grandchildren. She is best described as caring, dedicated, and always learning, and she has a special love for dogs and cows. The team feels incredibly fortunate to have Barb’s compassion, experience, and heart, and encourages everyone to say hello the next time they see her.

This week: Tara

Tara has been a valued member of the practice for nearly three years, serving as a Client Service Representative (CSR). She brings over 20 years of combined experience in both human and veterinary healthcare, offering a well-rounded perspective and deep compassion in her role.
After spending 15 years in human medicine, Tara was inspired to transition into veterinary care, combining her passion for healthcare with her love of animals. She finds the greatest joy in building meaningful connections with coworkers, clients, and their pets each day.
At home, Tara is the proud owner of Lola, her beloved rescued English bulldog—affectionately known as her “Fatty Cakes.” Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her daughter, reading, writing, fishing, relaxing beach vacations, and unwinding by a cozy campfire.
Though she may come across as outgoing at work, Tara describes herself as naturally shy—a fact that often surprises those around her. She is best described as funny, caring, and empathetic.

This week: Amy

Amy is a Registered Veterinary Technician who began her career in veterinary medicine while still in high school and now brings nearly 26 years of experience to the field. She attended Columbus State Community College and was inspired to pursue veterinary medicine after growing up on and around dairy farms, where she developed a lifelong love for animals. At home, Amy cares for Dover, a Golden Retriever, as well as two cats, Echo and Bluebell. She and her family also have two cows and chickens on their small farm, where they raise animals and grow crops. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter. A fun and unique fact about Amy is that she enjoys the challenge of working with “spicy” cats, and her favorite animals are cows.

🐾💙 Happy World Veterinary Day! 💙🐾

We may be a little late posting (thanks to a few tech hiccups along the way 😅), but our appreciation for our incredible veterinarians is always right on time!

Today, we celebrate the dedication, compassion, and hard work our vets bring to every single day. From diagnosing the tough cases to comforting worried pet parents, and everything in between—they truly do it all. Their commitment to keeping our patients healthy and our clients supported does not go unnoticed.

We are so grateful for everything our veterinarians do for our clinic, our community, and the animals we all love so much.

Help us show them some love in the comments!
