We rescue the "leftovers" from animal control, the dogs nobody wants because they're older or suffer from neglect, abuse or have a medical need. Their "last" day becomes the first day of their new life. We provide the veterinary care they need, a foster family they love and when they're ready, we adopt them to a family who cherishes them. We are all volunteers so your tax-deductible donation goes

Hi, I’m Gigi — a 5-year‑old, 15-lb chihuahua.

Favorite Things: Gigi loves her morning walk, then settles in with a plush toy and a few treats to start her day. She’s wonderfully vocal and uses her collection of silly sounds to share her opinions. Treat puzzles, tug, fetch, and her favorite stuffed toys keep her entertained, and her food motivation makes bonding easier. When playtime is over, she becomes a cozy couch companion who naps happily against her person.

Training & Manners: Gigi is housebroken, calm in the home, and enjoys a predictable routine. She sleeps soundly, handles everyday noises well, and chooses between her dog bed and yours depending on her mood. She needs slow, respectful introductions with new people, especially men, and warms up best when given space to approach on her own terms. She enjoys little adventures and continues to grow more comfortable with car rides.

Health & Care: Gigi is a healthy girl! She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines. She only needs her monthly heart worm and flea/tick preventatives. Her grooming needs are minimal with routine nail trims and baths, which she handles well.

Other Animals: Gigi needs to be the only dog in her home, as she can be reactive on walks and prefers not to share her space. Her person will need to create calm distance when dogs approach and guide her past them. With time and decompression, she may tolerate a small visiting dog, but only with a slow, intentional introduction. She may do well with a confident cat who isn’t rattled by her big personality.

Children: Gigi thrives in a quiet, adults‑only home with a steady routine.

Ideal Home: Gigi does best in a calm home without frequent visitors. She’s protective of her space and may bark when new people enter, but she settles once she feels secure. She needs a patient adopter who respects her boundaries and lets her settle at her own pace. A single‑family home with a fenced yard is ideal for her comfort and routine.

Adopt Viserion! He’s a 9-month-old Rat Terrier blend. We don't know how big he'll grow to be, but at the moment he weighs 5 lbs and is underweight.

Favorite Things: Viserion is such a sweet pup. He can be a little shy when meeting people for the first time, but once he is comfortable he is the biggest cuddle bug and loves to give kisses. He also loves snacks!

Training and Manners: Since he is only a 9-month-old puppy, Viserion is still working on house training and walking on a leash and playing with toys and learning commands, and he still does a little puppy play nipping. However, he already does well on car rides and prefers to sleep with his people at night through. He'll blossom with a patient person who can continue his training.

Health and Care: Viserion is a healthy boy! He is up-to-date on his vaccines and neutered. He'll just need his monthly flea and heartworm preventatives, like any dog.

Other Animals: Viserion gets along well with other dogs of all sizes. He hasn't been observed around cats yet, but his foster thinks they'd get along.

Children: This sweet boy does well with children of all ages.

Ideal Home: Viserion isn't a fan of being left alone so he will bark when he is left alone. For this reason, he'd do best in a single-family home.

Adopt Zoe! She’s an 8-lb, 10-year-old Miniature Pinscher blend.

Favorite Things: Zoe can be a bit timid when you approach and sometimes tries to hide, but once she gets to know you, she likes nothing more than to be around humans. She'll quickly choose a favorite person with whom she will always want to snuggle on a chair or bed. She's also content to burrow herself under a blanket in another room.

Training & Manners: One of the best-kept secrets about older dogs is that they often come pre-trained! Zoe is not a runner and understands commands like stop and come. She is housetrained if let out very frequently. She can be walked on a leash but does take some time to do her business. She sleeps in the people bed at night.

Health and Care: Zoe is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped. As a short-haired gal, she's not too high maintenance and should not require much elaborate grooming.

Other Animals: Zoe could be happy as the only pet in a household, and she also gets along well with other dogs that are her size. Her foster thinks she'd get along with cats.

Children: Zoe has not been observed around children yet.

Ideal Home: Apartment, condo, or single-family home: Zoe would like any of them, as long as there's a spot on the couch for her.

Overall: Zoe will make a wonderful companion for someone who can give her all the love and attention she deserves.

Adopt Albert! He’s a 5‑year‑old, 10-pound Yorkie. He is searching for a patient, dog‑savvy adopter who understands that some pups need a little extra time and guidance. He needs someone who can provide him with structure. He can be choosy about other dogs, but could be comfortable having a larger doggy sibling as long as they are more mellow.

Favorite Things: Albert loves his walks—he’s practicing not barking at people and other dogs, and he’s making progress. Toys are his treasures. He can be a bit possessive of them, though he’s learning to play fetch and has shown improvement in his foster home. He’s an energetic little guy who adores doing zoomies!

Training & Manners: Albert is housebroken in his foster home and reliably does his business outside or on walks after meals. He’s food‑motivated, not picky about his treats, and is learning basic commands like sit, down, and wait. He’s also an independent player who enjoys keeping himself entertained. He is learning to walk nicely on leash, tolerates a car ride, and is working on polishing his manners. Like many young pups, he still has some “puppy nipping,” . Redirection works best for him.

Health and Care: Albert is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and had a recent dental cleaning. Like any dog, he will need his monthly flea and heartworm prevention. As a Yorkie, he may need periodic grooming for his coat and nail trims. He’s done well for groomers in the past! He sometimes uses an ear wash weekly, which costs about $10 a month.

Other Animals: Albert loves to have his person all to himself and would not mind being the only dog in the home. He is hesitant of the larger dogs (50 and 70 lbs) in his foster home though has opened up to them slightly. We feel he would be bossy/rude with a pushier small dog, so we do not think this would be best for Albert. He would likely do ok with a large, confident and well-mannered dog who has no history of resource guarding. A larger dog would need to be assessed with Albert prior to adoption. He would not do well with feline friends.

Children: Albert does not like being forced into positions and doesn't appreciate manhandling of any kind. For this reason, homes with children under 13 would likely not be a good fit for Albert.

Ideal Home: Albert isn't choosy and would do okay in a house, apartment, townhouse or condo. Like any dog, His DREAM home would be a single‑family home with a fenced yard so he can safely run, explore, and get his zoomies out. He can stay home alone for several hours without issues, and when you return, he’s ready to play! At night, he sleeps well in his secure space and waits patiently for morning.

Overall: If you’re looking for a small, spirited, playful boy, Albert might be your match! Codey and Lexie came into our care several months ago after their owner passed away, and now this gentle pair is looking for a quiet home where they can live out their golden years together. Shhh… Lindsay, one half of our media team, doesn’t know we’re posting this. 🤫

Happy 5-Year Adoptaversary!

Five years ago, we took in 30+ dogs from a backyard breeder. I (the mysterious other half of the media team) was there to document and share the intake with all of you. I will never forget just how quiet that day was.

Normally, when you have a van full of crated dogs, not only does the smell knock you off your feet, but it’s loud.

These dogs were so neglected and traumatized they were silent. Absolutely silent. They all just laid in their crates, barely reacting to us at all.

Polly was one of those pups. And with the love and support of her foster-turned adopter and media’s more talented half, Lindsay, Polly has gone from a shut-down pup to a confident queen! 👑

Polly has graduated from multiple classes at Beyond The Leash, even earning her Good Canine Citizen certification. Polly also serves as PPR’s Head Girl Scout Liaison.

Happy five years, Lindsay and Polly!

May you have many more happy and confident years together. It’s been an honor to watch you both grow. 🥂

Next stop: foster homes! 🏠

Earlier this week, we took in 17 dogs from an ever larger intake in Lake County, where 85 dogs were rescued from one property.

After the dogs complete their initial vet exams, they’re heading home with one of our foster volunteers to decompress and continue their journey towards healing. Here’s a peek at one of the first pups, Syrax, heading home with our volunteer, Julie.

Adopt Bandit! He’s a 3-year-old, 17-pound Parson Russell Terrier blend.

Favorite Things: Bandit has a long list of favorite things! TOYS ? Nothing pleases him more than tearing a toy apart to find the beloved squeaker. A game of Tug-of-War and fetch? Sign him up. He also loves being with people and showering them with kisses, especially on their face. He also loves to nibble his human’s ears.

Training & Manners: Bandit is housetrained in his foster home, and his foster mom says he essentially “pees on command” when outdoors. He walks well on a leash and tolerates a car ride. He is VERY smart and responds well to commands. Additional training and working on basic manners should be a breeze (and lots of fun) with this intelligent guy who is food/treat motivated. He can be a bit of a finicky eater.

Health & Care: Bandit is neutered, up to date on vaccines and microchipped. He came into PPR’s care with a broken leg that continues to heal without surgery. He does still favor that leg a little, but it definitely has not slowed him (or his enthusiasm) down one bit. He may need continued medication for inflammation (he takes medications like a champ), but other than that, he’s a healthy, resilient guy. He should be low maintenance, and the occasional bath and nail trim should keep him looking like the dapper guy he is.

Other Animals: Bandit has not been around other dogs while in PPR’s care, so we are not able to determine how he would do with them. His personality would suggest he would be fine. Of course, if he’s the only dog, he would be fine with all the attention. A Meet & Greet would be necessary with the approved adopter if they have other dogs. He has not been tested with cats, but his foster thinks he would likely be fine with a feline friend.

Children: Bandit has not been around children since in our care. Again, based on his LOVE for people, we expect he would do well with older children/teens.

Ideal Home: Bandit’s forever home will need to be a single-family home with a fenced yard. He is very active and loves to run. He’s like the Energizer Bunny at times! He goes on five walks a day in his foster home and is still ready for a game of fetch. He has recently discovered his “voice” too so shared walls wouldn’t be ideal. Bandit does well in his secure area when left alone at home and can go for several hours without issues. He loves to be up on furniture but will get down when asked. But he firmly believes that rule expires quickly.

***Local adoption only: Tux needs to be adopted by a family in the Central Florida region (Orlando area) who will commit to taking him to his follow-up vetting appointments for remaining vaccines and neuter with PPR's vetting partner. These appointments will be scheduled through PPR, and the cost is included in his adoption donation.

Adopt Tux! He’s a 5‑month‑old, 35‑pound Standard Poodle puppy already dressed for every occasion.

Favorite Things: Tux is an all‑in kind of puppy who throws his whole heart into whatever he’s doing. He loves his toys and delights in carrying them around as if he’s showing off prized treasures. He enjoys playful bursts in the yard, settling in close for affection, and finding joy in every little moment.

Training and Manners: Tux is housetrained when let out regularly and does a nice job signaling when he needs to go outside. He sleeps comfortably in either his dog bed or the people bed. He walks well on a leash, enjoys car rides, and has a good foundation of basic manners. He’s still learning, but he approaches new skills with eager confidence, and continued guidance will help him feel even more secure as he grows.

Health and Care: Tux is a healthy puppy and up to date on his current vaccines. He will just need monthly flea and heartworm preventatives, like any dog. As a Standard Poodle, he requires regular brushing and professional grooming to keep his coat healthy and looking its best. He will need his remaining vaccines and neuter when he reaches the appropriate age. These services are included in his adoption donation and will be completed at one of our partnering veterinarians in Central FL.

Other Animals: Tux enjoys the company of other dogs and greets them with easy, friendly interest. He may bark at first, but once he gets close, he relaxes quickly and settles into comfortable play. His social nature makes him a good match for homes with well‑mannered dogs who appreciate puppy energy. He does not have experience with cats.

Children: Tux is best suited for homes with older children (8+) who understand how to interact with a young, energetic puppy.

Ideal Home: Tux would do best in a single‑family home, as he can be vocal when left alone and may feel overwhelmed in shared‑wall settings. A fenced yard would be a great bonus for his bursts of puppy energy. He’s still growing and learning, so a family with patience, consistency, and time for training will help him thrive. He’s treat‑motivated, eager to learn, and happiest with plenty of companionship throughout the day.

Overall: Tux is a bright, affectionate young poodle who brings charm wherever he goes. He’s more than ready to add a little tuxedo‑style flair to a family who enjoys a lively companion.
