Happy National Puppy Day🐾 Today, we celebrate all the adorable, playful puppies that bring so much joy to our lives. It’s important to keep an eye on their heart health from the start. Early detection of heart conditions can make a big difference in their long-term well-being. Do you own a breed that is predisposed to heart issues? Consider getting a baseline cardiology workup to ensure peace of mind and provide images in the future if any cardiology issues arise. Talk to your veterinarian or give us a call if you have any questions!

Here’s to ensuring a healthy, happy heart for years to come! ❤️

Did you know it is National Nutrition Month! Let’s talk grain free diets. It’s all the fad. Paleo for pups or cats? As a general rule, we suggest you stay clear. Three words: non-hereditary dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). In 2020, the FDA launched an investigation on why DCM cases were on the rise. DCM is a disease that affects the heart muscle. This disease causes the heart to become enlarged with dilated chambers, which makes it harder for the heart to pump blood throughout the body. Additionally, DCM could even cause leaky valves and result in congestive heart failure.

Because every dog is unique and has their own nutritional needs, your veterinarian is in the best position to advise you on how to best feed your dog. Please consult your veterinarian to discuss before making a change in your dog’s diet.

Let’s chat about cat heart health! Did you know cats can have heartbeats that are sometimes too quiet to hear even with the best of the best stethoscope?

Some cats, particularly older or very small ones, can have an incredibly faint heart sound, making it difficult to detect heart murmurs or arrhythmias with a stethoscope. In these unique cases it is extremely important to follow up with a cardiologist who have specialized equipment like an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart) or electrocardiogram (ECG) to get a clear picture of the heart’s health if there are any suspected heart issues.

Feline heart health can be a bit more mysterious and challenging to diagnose without the right tools. If you find your sweet fur baby needs extra care, please don’t hesitate to call our office.

Every year we look forward to March 1st. Why? Because it is National Peanut Butter Lover’s Day! Our furry friends, especially the dogs, are big fans of this tasty treat. Just remember, while peanut butter can be a fun and tasty snack for your pets, make sure it’s free from xylitol, a sweetener that can be harmful to them. Let's celebrate the nutty goodness together! 🥜🐾

It’s all things heart this month so let’s dive into the cat world! Did you know coughing is rarely a sign of cardiac issues in cats? Cats are tricky as they tend to hide their pain or discomfort (more so than dogs). Recognizing the signs and asking the right questions are crucial steps in your cat’s health journey. If you think your cat may have heart issues, be sure to share your concerns with your veterinarian or call our office to book a thorough cardiology workup.
