🌩️ With all the thunderstorms we’ve had lately (and another one rolling in tonight!), many of our furry friends are feeling extra anxious. Loud booms, flashing lights, and shaky windows can be really scary for pets. Here are some tips to keep your dogs and cats cozy when the sky gets noisy:
🐶🐱 Cozy Comfort Zone
Create a safe little den, maybe a crate with a blanket over it, a closet, or under the bed. Pets feel safer in small, enclosed spaces.
🎶 Soundtrack Swap
Play calming music, white noise, or even the TV a little louder to drown out the booms. Classical music or “relaxing dog/cat playlists” on Spotify can actually work wonders.
🫂 Your Vibes Matter
Stay calm and act normal. If you fuss too much, your pet might think “oh no, this IS the end of the world!” Keep your energy steady and reassuring.
🧥 The Magic of Pressure
Try a ThunderShirt or snug-fitting shirt to give gentle pressure (like a constant hug). It can help reduce anxiety for both dogs and cats.
🍖 Distraction Treats
Offer a puzzle toy, a lick mat smeared with peanut butter, or special treats to keep them busy and redirect their focus.
🌿 Natural Helpers
Calming sprays, pheromone diffusers (like Adaptil for dogs or Feliway for cats), or even vet-approved calming chews can take the edge off.
⚕️ Vet-Approved Meds (When It’s Really Bad)
If their fear is severe, your vet may recommend anti-anxiety medication to use during storms. No shame in that game, some pets just need extra help!
