A rabid bat was recently found inside a home in Glencoe. While that's about 60 miles away, it's a good reminder that rabies is still present in Illinois and only takes one exposure to become a serious threat.

Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms appear, but it is 100% preventable with vaccination. In Illinois, dogs and cats 4 months of age and older are required by law to be vaccinated against rabies by a licensed veterinarian, unless they have a medical exemption.

If your pet has been acting unusually, watch for signs such as:
🦇 Sudden aggression or unusual behavior
🦇 Excessive drooling or difficulty swallowing
🦇 Weakness or trouble walking
🦇 Extreme sensitivity to light or sound
🦇 Paralysis

If your pet is overdue for their rabies vaccine, now is a great time to get them back on schedule. Protecting your pet also helps protect your family and our community.
