About the Trainer:
Ashley Powers emphasizes Classical Dressage principles in all training scenarios, focusing on correct and balanced riding position, as well as developing a clear communication between horse and rider. Whether she is starting a young horse, working with problem horses or instructing her students, her goal is a safe partnership on the ground and under saddle. She gladly works with all breeds and riders alike.
Ashley has extensive experience in working with problem and rescue horses. All of the horses that she has owned have either been a rescue or a problem horse that she has taken on to rehab. She has found that most problem horses have either a pain response, holes in their training, or a combination of both.
Ashley’s early riding career was in Hunter/Jumper, United States Pony Club, and 3-Day Eventing. She still utilizes cross training in her program with trailing riding, cavaletti, and small fences (if the horse is capable) because it makes a happy and well rounded horse.
Ashley has helped run her family’s boarding facility, Jewel of the Valley Equine, since it’s opening in 2006. This has given her extensive hands on experience in the day to day care and management of the horses. She doesn’t just ride the horses, she is hands on involved in all of the day to day care and has exceptional attention to detail. Horses in her program are treated like they are her own, and she gets to know them on a personal level. If something is off, she is the first to notice! Ashley also has been utilizing alternative therapy methods including microcurrent, light therapy, and iontophoresis to keep her athletes performing at their best since 2001. She is certified in Microcurrent Therapy and a Certified Best-Vet Instructor (microcurrent).
Ashley was also working students for Rose Howe, Danica Yates, and Brandy Jones. In November 2017 & 2018 Ashley spent time in Portugal to further her training with her mentor Jose Manuel Correia Lopes.
Ashley has ridden with a variety of instructors and clients over the years:
Jose Manuel Correia Lopes, Rodrigo Matos, Miguel Duarte, Rose Howe, Danica Yates, Peggy Cummings, Daniel Stuart, Juata Weirderhold
With her riding experience, use of therapy on the horses, and horse management experience; she applies a synergistic and holistic approach to horse training and management. With Ashley you won’t just learn to be a better rider, you will learn practical skills to be an all around better horse person. Horse and Owner will learn better ground manners and proper horse handling skills, teaching horses to be safe while trailering, and other important skills!
