Hey y’all, I thought I should tell you that Atticus will not be competing in the competition this weekend. Yesterday I took Atticus to the first day of the competition and it went poorly. I was in a trainer meeting for an hour and a half and when I came back from the meeting he was trying to bang the stall door down. I think that if he had been in that stall for much longer he would have hurt himself. Also, since the floor in the stalls was concrete covered with wood shaving. I think over the course of three days of pawing and banging, he would have damaged his hooves. When I took him out of the stall he was quite nervous. Because of all these factors I felt that it was my responsibility as a trainer to pull him from the competition. I reasoned that if I had him there for several days in the stressful environment that it would not be a good learning experience for him. I don’t think that it would be fair to him to have him spend the night in a stall that he was that anxious to get out of to make him preform in the morning. So I made the difficult decision to take him home. Though it was a sad desision for me to make, I know it was the right one. I want to thank all of you who have supported me in the past 120 days with your kindness, generosity, encouragement and terrific training advice! I know I would not have made it this far in my training with Atticus if not for your amazing help! I am so happy that Atticus has found his forever home with my family and has reserved a special place in my mom’s heart as her first horse. I am beyond proud of Atticus that he has come this far in his training. I have been truly blessed to have him as my horse for my first time in the competition. I don’t know if I have ever shared this but up until last year I had never owned, trained or even grew up around horses. So I am very proud of myself for training two mustangs in the past year!
