I’m pretty sure that pre-grooming/tacking the string to be worked for the evening is like meal prepping. You’re a lot more likely to get through the whole barn of horses if they are all standing there ready to go. Bonus, every horse gets to learn the expectations of standing tied, patiently, with activity all over and horses coming and going from their assigned spots. For instance this is an especially good tool for the one that is herd bound to see that the horse they are tied next to can go away, be worked, come back and the world did not in fact fall apart. To have horses walking by and not be startled. To have dogs run past, tractors and quads move around, just barn life happen and still they exist in their bodies, these are the little lessons that turn into big things later.

Last night wasn’t a great night for photos as I was just snapping them as I would stop and live in a proud moment of the progress that I can see in the ones that are here, but it was a good night of working the three client horses, two baby horses, and getting all the barn chores done. Today is a new day for learning and growing and we will be here for it!

Well March kicked off the training barn madness in a big way. We went from one horse in to three horses just this week. Val is here for manners and a foundation of handling, more on him soon. Teeter is back for a spring freshen up. Harley is here for legging up before his spring travels. Baby Bo is learning to work with his feet more. And Miss Shelby got her first trim this weekend and handled it marvelously. Met a few new friends and showed a horse for sale too. Add on spring cleaning of pressure washing, a new viewing platform, stall mats all pulled and releveled and mats back down and hosed, toss in some weeding and the barn area looks fresh and spring ready.

We are booked for March and April but have one spot left still for May and June. We can also do vacation boarding if you are traveling and want a quick refresher on your solid mount while you do your spring travels. Get your young ones started on ground work, under saddle, trail ready, or started on patterns. We are set to get the foundation solid for them to grow and succeed!

What did 60 degrees on a Saturday bring? Bath time for babies of course! Baby Bo got his first bath yesterday. Shelby is old hat at it by now. You can see Bo asking what the heck is going on but he handles everything with just a touch of sass and a whip smart mind that figures things out quick.

Shelby is still looking for her new home!

Spring is here and books are open. If you need a tune up before spring riding or you have a youngster that needs ground manners, we can help! Right now the barn is all about babies becoming good citizens. Don’t wait until it’s time to start them under saddle to start the manners and groundwork.

What brings your calm?
I often am asked why I ride later at night. Well the easy answer is that life happens during the day so night is when I get my time to ride. Honestly though night is when I’ve rode all my life, and it’s what I like. When I ride at night there is no “after the barn”, “next on the list for the day”, “I have to hurry and get…”.

When the barn is at the end of the day I get to wind down. I get to start to breathe from the days chaos. I get nights like tonight. The traffic on the road is a little lighter. The noise in my head is a little quieter. The dark gives shadows and sounds for the horses to learn to navigate, but the dark for me shuts the outside world out for just a moment and it’s just me and the horses. I get nights like tonight where I get to stand in the quiet, the only sounds being the soft exhale of a horse at the end of a well partnered work session well done, the coyotes chattering in the fields, and the bullfrogs in great symphony on the pond. The quiet orchestra of the night is how I get to end my day.

So, that’s why I ride at night. I ask you again, what brings your calm? Now you know mine.

Well Spring has spring and seasonal changes are upon us. Today little Memphis loaded up for transport to his new home in CA! He was a little hesitant to load but with a short coaxing he jumped in and tied right up and as he went out the driveway stood calm looking around like a seasoned pro. Good boy Memphis. Enjoy your new family!

The first spring training horse came into the barn this week. Super glad to have the arena ready to go to jump right back in. I have one opening for March and two for April. This is a good time to get a 30-60 day tune up on your young ones before the riding season starts or send your frisky older ones in for a quick refresher. Do you have a yearling needing ground work and manners to get them ready to start under saddle later or a weanling needing to learn how to be a big kid, we do that too! Oh and c**t starting, just check down our page for plenty of sucess stories.

Little Miss Shelby is still looking to meet her new family. She’s so stinking smart and calm. She would be a bang up 4H project or first time training prospect. She is such a doll and will do anything for scratches.

Lots going on. Limited lessons starting back up for those with their own horses. Lessons on mine are still on hold for the time being but may get back to that this summer. Happy sunny days all, and give me a call to book your critter for a foundation of success!

2025 Warm Springs Reservation Filly. Shelby is a picture perfect example of why WS horses have a reputation for being calm, smart, and steady. This darling little red lady is a pleasant combination of born broke, independent, and confident. She is clearly a leader, doesn’t mind wandering off by herself to check something out, very curious, and super smart. I had my hands on her the first day she was here, haltered and leading in under an hour. She sometimes hangs back on the lead rope like “mom do I have to” but she does lead in and out of the roundpen, I have lead her over the bridge and logs, through the shop, and stood grazing while the tractor drove back and forth past her. She has zero problem hanging with the dogs and takes everything in stride.

She leads, ties, bathes, fly sprays, has been touched all over, picks up all four feet, and has been blanketed. She has had her first wormer and eats orchard hay from a feed bag or off the ground. She does need her first trim but I’m sure she will handle that as nicely as she has handled everything else. She string tests to about 14.3hh. She was range born, came in with her mom in August, weaned in September and we bought her a week later. This little lady and her rich deep red coat are going to be one amazing mount that I’m sure will carry her person to the ends of the earth. She just has that combo of “bring it” and “I got this” that is so cool. She will be easy to train and a favorite of the barn I’m sure. She has met a few people, had a few bathes, and can be won over with food or body scratches. Come meet Shelby and make her your new sweetheart. Located Oregon City Oregon. 7💿💿 obo. Need her to find her new home as we need the stall back for spring training horses coming in!

SOLD! 2025 Warm Springs Reservation C**t. Memphis is a stunning little man. His round hip and vivid colors are going to grow into a looker everywhere he goes. From his bay pinto markings, to his white socks with mapping with little black dots by his feet, and then his splashes of white and that dorsal stripe leading to a cream thread into his tail, oh my he’s going to turn heads. Let’s not forget his touch of blue in one eye. Just enough to make you question if you see that correct.

Personality: hands down he’s still flighty. He does default to run away but once he knows he’s caught he gives well. He looks for confidence and leadership. He needs a quiet and calm environment and leader that will show him the world isn’t as scary as he thinks it is. He excels when you talk calm and low soothing tones and move slow, often crawling almost into your shoulder when you take the time to let him find comfort. This little man is at a pivotal time when he is looking to bond with someone. I don’t think he will ever be the confident one to run into battle on his own, but if he finds his person to bond with I think he will carry that person to the ends of the earth trusting in his partnership.

Things he has done: he has been haltered, brushed, all four feet picked up, bathed, tied to a patience post and trailer, blanketed, fly sprayed. He has been lead inside and outside of a roundpen but I recommend a long line for new environments in case he bolts so he doesn’t get away. Once again, when he knows he’s caught he almost comes back up the rope to you looking for comfort. He has heard gun shots, tractors, leaf blowers, lawn mowers, quads on the property. They have not been right next to him but in the area. He is very accustom to low key calm dogs hanging out with him. He has only been trailered once but I’m sure would handle it well.

History: he was a range born WS baby spring of 2025. I’m guessing April or May. He was rounded up at his mom’s side in August, weaned in September, and we bought him a week after weaning. He has been fed free range orchard grass and will eat out of a hay bag/net or off the ground. He drinks well from a bucket. He had had his first round of wormer. He is not sure of grain or treats as of yet. He is due for his first trim which I’m sure he will handle well. Asking 7✋🏻0 and can hold til Christmas. Come meet this cutie and take him home for the holidays. Located in Oregon City Oregon

I know I just did a post yesterday about the babies but I just have to share a sneak peak from their photo shoot and how well they did. These little tykes came right out of the stalls, tied hard to the trailer again, let me take blankets off with no fuss and get them all cleaned up for pictures. I got the wild idea to spray these guys down with grooming spray/show sheen type stuff. I thought “oh boy, spray bottles are going to be a battle.” Y’all these kids stood there with a foot cocked, half asleep and let me spray them from a bottle from mane to tail and everywhere between and didn’t bat an eye. I have full grown horses that come in for training and fly/medical spray is one of their biggest fears. To say I was impressed with how well these guys take things when worked consistent was an understatement. They stood well and followed directions for their photos too. Super proud of these little Warm Springs babies. Enjoy the sneak peak. Full photos coming soon!

The babies had a big day yesterday. First bathes, first hard tie lesson progressing from patience post to hard tie at wooden post, got all of their feet cleaned, first trailer tie, and first blankets. They got to spend the afternoon tied to the trailer napping in the sun and were sooo sleepy after their learning. All in all they did great and handled things well. Official ads hopefully this week. Who wants a Christmas baby….

I love having the opportunity to help guide these young horses through growth and learning. Little miss Whisper got to go to a cow sorting clinic today!

Remember, this filly is only 2 and was just started under saddle 6 weeks ago! Did we go try to go run and chase cows, we absolutely did not. I refuse to push a horse into fear and reactivity but choose to give them opportunities to observe, think, and move forward with calm and patience letting them learn that growth can be uncomfortable but we can navigate it together and come out solid on the other side. What she got to tackle today; her first ride in an indoor arena (I ride outdoors almost all the time), her first ride with over a dozen other horses and riders moving around all at once, noise from whooping and such moving cows around, cows!, standing next to other horses, big movements from cows and other horses, we opened and closed gates from the saddle, saw more banners, and tied up at a parking lot with other horses close by. I’m sure in her mind there was a lot of other things she tackled but even in my mind this was a HUGE day for her. She did start off thinking her world blew up around her but she kept her feet calm and took it all in and we pushed forward into the crowd as she told me she could handle. I set the expectation with our clinic instructor before we started that if all we did was sit and watch all day then I was fine with that, but she took the time to let us go in on a couple cows the first time and just follow them around, and then later push in on the whole pen and move them around. We didn’t care about what number went across in what order, just that Whisper was giving us try and thinking through things. To take a 2yo baby brain just under saddle a few weeks and go tackle all that, my gosh I’m so proud of her!

Also important, knowing when to call it quits! The clinic went for a couple hours but at about an hour in Whisper was finally standing next to the rails, next to horses, watching all the activity going on just inches from her nose and she was calm and relaxed. That was it, we pulled out on a good note and walked out with a dropped and relaxed head and a big sigh. Good girl Whisper! So freaking proud of you! Thank you also to our clinician and the opportunities that we get to help these young ones grow, and Thank You to the owners that see the value in exposure and growth and support getting their horses out there!
