Every dog that comes to Sit n' Stay has their own personality, their own challenges, and their own story.

Some arrive full of confidence. Others need help finding it. Some are learning basic manners, while others are overcoming fears or working through more complex behavioral challenges.

What they all have in common is the people who care deeply about helping them succeed.

Over the years, we've had the privilege of meeting countless of dogs and their families. While every journey is different, each one reminds us of the incredible bond people share with their dogs and the lengths they'll go to help them live their best lives.

Your dog grows. Life changes. New questions come up.

Sometimes you don’t need a whole new dog training program.

Sometimes you just need someone you trust to ask.

Someone who won’t judge you.

Someone who won’t tell you to do something that feels wrong.

Someone who won’t disappear after one lesson.

Someone who knows dogs, understands people, and can help you figure out the next right step.

We’ve been hearing this more and more from dog owners lately:

“My dog is mostly doing well… but I have questions.”

And honestly? That makes so much sense.

Celebrating 24 Years of Sit n' Stay! 🎉

People often come to us looking for help with their dog's behavior.

But what they discover along the way is that training is rarely just about the dog.
It's about helping people understand what their dog is communicating. It's about building confidence, developing new skills, and learning how to navigate challenges together.

Some of the most rewarding moments happen when owners realize they are capable of more than they thought possible. When they gain confidence, their dogs often do too.

That's why we spend so much time supporting both ends of the leash.

Because lasting change happens when dogs and people learn together.

Save this for the next time your dog does something that makes you think:

"Why are you like this?!" 😅

Before jumping straight to frustration, pause and ask:

What is my dog practicing right now?

Then run through these three questions:

1️⃣ Allow

Am I okay with this behavior continuing?

If your dog is resting, chewing an appropriate toy, walking away from conflict, or calmly watching the world go by, wonderful.

Allow it.

Maybe even reward it.

But if your dog is jumping, mouthing, barking, chasing another dog, stealing things, or rehearsing chaos, we probably do not want to keep allowing that pattern.

2️⃣ Manage

Can I change the setup?

This might mean using a gate, crate, leash, pen, safe room, chew, stuffed Kong, lick mat, food puzzle, or simply separating dogs before things escalate.

Management is not failure.

Management is how we stop our dogs from practicing behaviors we do not want while we teach them what to do instead.

3️⃣ Teach

What do I want my dog to do instead?

✔ Go to bed
✔ Settle on a mat
✔ Chew this toy
✔ Walk with me
✔ Check in
✔ Rest here
✔ Move away
✔ Wait calmly

Your dog does not need perfection.

They need clarity.

The clearer we are, the easier it is for our dogs to succeed.

As we celebrate 24 years of Sit n Stay, we're also celebrating the incredible team members who have dedicated years of their lives to helping dogs and their families succeed.

Training dogs isn't just about teaching skills. It's about supporting people, building confidence, solving challenges, and creating lasting change. That kind of impact only happens because of the passionate individuals who show up every day ready to make a difference.

Summer can be fun for dogs...

But it can also be a lot.

Kids are home more.

Schedules change.

Guests come over.

Doors open and close.

Dogs may get less sleep.

There may be more noise, more excitement, more yard time, and more opportunities to practice habits we do not want.

So if your dog suddenly feels more chaotic, mouthy, jumpy, barky, clingy, or just plain harder to live with, it may not be that they forgot everything they learned.

It may be that the setup changed.

And when the setup changes, dogs often need more structure, not less.

This is where our Allow. Manage. Teach. framework comes in.

Allow: What behavior is my dog currently being allowed to practice?

Manage: What can I change so they cannot keep practicing the behavior I do not want?

Teach: What do I want them to do instead?

The first couple of weeks of changing the pattern can feel like more work.

But the alternative is usually not "no work."

It is doing the work later, after the behavior has become stronger, more rehearsed, and harder to change.

That is exactly why we created RESET.

RESET is a short, affordable program designed to help you step back, rebuild your dog's daily structure, and stop the chaos cycle before it becomes your new normal.

Congratulations to the graduates of our April Surviving Puppyhood class! 🎓🐾

Back in April, this group of puppy parents and their pups spent several weeks building the skills needed to navigate the challenges of raising a young dog.

Throughout the class, puppies worked on important foundation behaviors including focus around distractions, polite greetings, handling exercises, settling calmly, confidence building, and learning how to make good choices in everyday situations.

The puppy stage can be exciting, exhausting, and sometimes overwhelming, but these teams showed up ready to learn and put in the work. We are so proud of the progress they made and can't wait to see them continue to grow.

If your dog feels "out of control" lately, you are not alone.

We hear this all the time:

"My dog won't stop mouthing when I'm trying to get the kids ready."

"She is terrorizing my other dog."

"He's jumping, barking, stealing things, and getting into everything."

And here's the part I really want you to know:

Your dog is always learning.

Not just when you're holding treats.

Not just when you're in class.

Not just when you say, "Okay, now we're training."

Your dog is learning all day long based on what works, what gets repeated, what gets attention, and what happens next.

So when your dog feels out of control, the question becomes:

What is my dog practicing right now?

At Sit n Stay, we use three simple buckets:

Allow. Manage. Teach.

Allow: Am I letting this behavior continue?

Manage: Do I need to change the setup so my dog cannot keep practicing this?

Teach: What do I want my dog to do instead?

This is especially important during summer, when routines shift, kids are home more, guests visit, doors open and close, and dogs often have more chances to practice habits we do not want.

Twenty-four years ago, Sit n' Stay began with a simple goal: helping dogs and their people build better lives together.

Over the years, we've had the privilege of working with thousands of dogs and families. We've celebrated first successes, helped owners through challenges, watched fearful dogs gain confidence, and seen incredible relationships grow stronger through understanding and training.

What makes this milestone so special isn't the number itself. It's the people and dogs who have trusted us to be part of their journey. Every lesson taught, every tail wag, every breakthrough moment, and every success story has helped shape who we are today.

To our clients, our team, our community, and every dog who has walked through our doors—thank you. Your trust, support, and dedication are the reason we've been able to do what we love for 24 years.
