⚠️Important! Please be aware there is a current bloom of harmful blue-green algae in Clay County in Doctors Lake. The so-called “algae” is not actually a type of algae but a bacteria known as cyanobacteria and it can be toxic to canines and most often fatal.

❓Cyanobacteria isn’t visible to the naked eye so just because you can’t see the blue green tint doesn’t mean it’s not there.

❗️Keep your dogs out of the water to avoid exposure. No swimming in Doctor’s Lake!

Symptoms of toxicity include:

Diarrhea or vomiting
Drooling
Increased heart rate
Elevated liver enzymes
Lethargy / Weakness
Disorientation/confusion
Unconsciousness
Seizures
Breathing difficulties

If you feel your pet has been in contact with blue-green algae please rinse with freshwater immediately to avoid further exposure , take a sample of the water if possible and seek veterinary help immediately if your pet has become ill after exposure.
