If you have a cat with extra toes (polydactyl) please keep an eye on their nails as they tend to grow into their pads if not trimmed regularly. This picture of a nail was from a cat that had 3 dewclaws. The entire nail was embedded into his paw. You can see the bloody area, all of that was in the pad.
