Well everyone, it’s hard to believe that 2026 starts tomorrow!
As we turn the page on this year, we want to take a moment to reflect on everything New Horizons was able to accomplish.
- Puppies -
We welcomed three litters into the world for a total of 21 adorable Golden Retriever puppies. From those litters, and one born last November, we placed 13 puppies into our training program and 4 into our breeding program.
• Veterinary Medicine litter: Boehringer, Echo, Medicus and Vetcor
• Shades of Red litter: Brick, Burgundy, Maroon, Scarlet and Ruby
• Swamp litter: Marsh, Swamp, Willow and Lotus
• Tennessee Cities litter: Knoxville, Memphis, Nashville and Shelbyville
- Puppy Raising and Prison Programs -
With the incredible help of both our puppy raisers and inmate handlers, between 40 and 60 dogs were being trained throughout the year.
We also expanded our Prison Pup program to a new, and most excitingly, local facility.
- Placements -
We hosted two Team Trainings and placed a total of 23 service dogs.
(Autism: 7 PTSD: 6 Mobility: 13)
On top of that, 12 dogs were placed as therapy or in-home service dogs.
- Community and Outreach -
Our dogs were impressive enough to be featured in two different newspapers' articles. We had the privilege of visiting with Local Souls and Mainstreet Community Bank following their generous donations. We also participated in reading groups at Timbercrest Elementary and hosted a booth at the Longwood Garden Fair.
- Gratitude -
None of this would be possible without the support of our amazing community - the puppy raisers, inmate handlers, prison staff, breeder caretakers, clients, dog sitters, weekend raisers, community service workers, volunteers, donors, and our dedicated staff.
As a nonprofit, New Horizons thrives only because of this assistance. We are endlessly grateful for the kindness, hard work, and time that so many people pour into our mission. Thank you for helping us change lives, both the two-legged and four-legged variety!
