⚠️We want to make our clients aware of the recent rise in flea-borne typhus cases across Louisiana. Since the beginning of 2025, 17 cases have been reported statewide, all requiring hospitalization, with two reported deaths.⚠️
Flea-borne typhus is spread through infected flea f***s and can affect both people and animals. Fleas carried by rats, opossums, cats, and dogs can spread the disease in both urban and suburban areas.
One of the best ways to help protect your family and pets is consistent, year-round flea prevention. We strongly encourage using veterinary prescription flea prevention products, as many over-the-counter options are less effective and may not provide reliable protection.
If you have questions about which flea prevention is best for your pet, we’re always happy to help. 337-407-8600
