Case of the Month:
Our sweet Levi. Levi was accidentally hit by a truck on 6/18. His owners brought him in because he was acting painful around his belly and was having difficulty walking. We took some X-rays to rule out any broken bones (He had none thankfully) and we kept him overnight on some fluids and pain medications. The next day, our technicians noted that he was posturing to urinate but very little was coming out and he was still very painful in his belly. Dr. Ashlyn ultrasounded his belly and confirmed that his bladder was ruptured and he had urine in his abdomen. Urine in the abdomen can lead to really bad infections and sepsis. Levi's owner's did not hesitate when we called to recommend surgery even though the prognosis was a bit guarded- they were all in. When Dr. Ashlyn got into the abdomen, Levi's bladder was completely ruptured in half and some of the tissue around it was already compromised. Although we were very worried about how he would do post-operatively, his owners allowed us to continue with surgery. After repairing the bladder rupture, Levi hung out with us with a urinary catheter in place for 7 days. Every day he got stronger and stronger. On Day 7, we removed his urinary catheter so he could test out his new bladder. Picture 2 is his very first p*e- we are so sorry for the unsolicited potty pic but we were so excited for him! We are so proud of him and so thankful for his owner's that never gave up on him. We truly believe he is a bit of a miracle doggy. ❤️❤️

To my amazing clients:
If you’ve ever sent me a thank you card, a gift, flowers—just know I’ve kept every single one. I revisit them often as a reminder of why I love what I do and who I do it for. I love caring for your pets but I also enjoy getting to know all of you. Your kindness and support truly mean the world to me. 💛 -Dr. A

To our St. Landry Parish Community:
It has come to our attention that there is an article circulating by a news source claiming that Louisiana legislators voted to give Louisiana State University money to purchase the 200-acre Copper Crowne Equestrian Center in Opelousas. The article notes that the “200 acres includes veterinary clinics, barns, an arena, training track, rehab facility and foaling/boarding facilities”. While we are unable to speak on the details of what IS included, we can assure you that The Veterinary Clinic @ Copper Crowne Small Animal Clinic, Acadiana Equine Hospital and the property our building sits on, are NOT included in this sale. We have no association with this purchase and our business will continue to run- as is. We sincerely apologize for any confusion this has caused.
Sincerely,
Owners of the Veterinary Clinic @ Copper Crowne Small Animal Clinic; Owners of Acadiana Equine Hospital

Story Time!
Let me tell y’all about our boy Spice here. Spice has given us (and more so his owners) a run for our money! Spice started with recurrent UTI’s a couple of years ago. The first couple were treated as simple UTI’s (with antibiotics). Fortunately, he would get better, but it was only a matter of time before he got another one. His owner never gave up on him- we ran multiple tests on Spice and finally got a diagnosis of Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD). FLUTD is not a single disease, but a general term used to describe a group of conditions that affect a cat’s bladder and urethra. Treatments include diet change, antiinflammatories, stress management, etc. Spice was already on a special diet, antiinflammatories and medications for stress management. Environmental enrichment is also very important to reduce stress in felines. Spice is an indoor only kitty, but he does have a screened in porch that he likes to lay around in. However, recently the owner noticed he was meowing at the door to go outside. His mom was a bit nervous to allow him out as he is an older guy that only knew indoors. As a last resort, we decided that it may benefit Spice to enjoy some outdoor time. Ever since then, he has been a brand new kitty. No more UTI’s and he’s even been a bit friendlier! So now when Spice comes to board with us, he gets special walks on the leash like the dogs so he doesn’t get UTI’s. 😂😍

K9’s for Warriors is an organization founded in 2011 that provides highly trained Service dogs (who are often rescues) to military Veterans suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma, at no financial cost to the Veteran. Roughly 20 Veterans die by su***de every day, and over 1,000 dogs are euthanized. K9s For Warriors exists because of a fierce dedication to saving the lives of both Veterans and rescue dogs. Saving Lives at both ends of the leash!

K9s For Warriors is the nation’s largest provider of Service Dogs for Veterans with PTSD. We help Veterans live a life of dignity and independence.
