Neahwa Dog Park – Winter Use Policy (Updated 02/09/2026)
The City of Oneonta is happy to announce that both the large dog and small dog areas of the Neahwa Dog Park will remain open throughout the winter season, weather permitting.
Thanks to available staffing and new equipment, the Department of Public Works’ Facilities Maintenance crew is now able to clear snow from:
· Walkways leading from the parking areas to the dog park entrance, and
· The looped stone-dust pathways within the dog park.
Snow removal at City sidewalks, streets, and buildings will always take priority. However, we anticipate being able to clear dog park walkways within a couple of days following most snowstorms, as conditions allow.
To support shared use during winter weather:
· Snow shovels will be available at the dog park entrances for visitors who wish to clear snow around gates or entrances.
· Park users should expect winter conditions and use caution, especially after snow or ice events.
· Temporary closures may occur during severe weather or unsafe conditions. When this happens, gates will be locked and signage posted, and notices shared when possible.
While the City will make reasonable efforts to clear primary access routes as conditions allow, snow and ice may remain present following storm events. Visitors should use caution and enter at their own risk.
Winter Parking:
Visitors are asked to park in the parking lot adjacent to the Skate Park and Baseball Field #6 during the winter months. Please do not park along roadways, as this creates safety concerns for pedestrians and park users.
We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation as we balance winter maintenance needs across the City while keeping this popular amenity accessible.

Enjoy the park—and have a safe, fun winter season!
