Feline Panleukopenia, aka Cat Parvo, is unfortunately rearing its ugly head in the area. I had not seen a case of this disease in many years but know of at least three locally in the past 6 months and apparently the feral cat population in Wamego is now having an outbreak of it.
Cat parvo is a highly contagious, highly fatal disease. The usual signs are lethargy, vomiting and diarrhea. Because this viral disease acts so fast, effective treatment is difficult.
The feline panleukopenia vaccine is highly protective for this disease. Please call our office to schedule vaccination for your cats. This is very important for outside cats but also, being the disease is so contagious and can be brought into your house on your clothes, indoor cats need to be vaccinated also.
(P.S. the kitten in this photo is up for adoption. He loves to play and loves attention!!)
